[Non-toxic] Appendix: Yellow stones with coarse texture, round stones from water. Born in earth and stone.
Jiangshi (Ginger Stone) treats swelling caused by heat-toxin pea sores, Ding toxic carbuncles, etc. (Recorded by famous physicians). [Origin] *Tujing Bencao* states: Grows among earth and stones; those from Licheng County, Qizhou are superior, though available elsewhere. Currently, only Qizhou produces them. Their shape resembles ginger, with five varieties. For medicinal use, white ones that are friable but not gritty (Cha Ren qie) are preferred. There are also yellow stones with coarse texture and round stones from water, which mostly treat yong abscesses and sore swellings. However, each has its own efficacy, so they are appended together. *Yanyi Bencao* states: Jiangshi is found everywhere; those not exposed to sunlight and freshly dug with a slightly white color are best. [Harvest Time] Anytime. [Medicinal Standard] White, friable, and non-gritty are best. [Color] White. [Flavor] Salty. [Nature] Cold, soft. [Qi and Flavor] Strong flavor, Yin nature. [Odor] Rotten. [Indications] Ding swellings, yong abscesses. [Processing] Grind into fine powder for use. [Treatment Formula] *Bielu* records: Round stones from water treat sudden swelling on the back that gradually expands to the size of a saucer, of unknown name. Take one or two bowls of this stone, burn until extremely hot, immerse in clear water. After boiling stops, wash the swollen area with this water; it heals immediately. [Compound Treatment] Mix Bai Jiangshi (White Ginger Stone) powder with egg white, apply to Ding swellings; the toxin will naturally emerge. Applying to Ru Yong (Breast Abscess) is also effective. ○ Coarse-textured yellow stones, the size of goose eggs, are fiercely burned until red-hot, frequently quenched in strong vinegar until the stone is fully processed. Take the residue, dry in sun, grind and sieve, mix with vinegar, and apply to back sores; it heals immediately.
Maifanshi (Wheat-Rice Stone) treats Fa Bei (Back Carbuncle) and various other yong abscesses with divine efficacy (Recorded by famous physicians). [Origin] *Tujing Bencao* states: The stone is rough, yellowish-white, resembling wheat-rice; those previously used as millstones are especially good. However, I verify Chen Ziming's claim that Maifanshi should not be used as a millstone. The ancient saying "those used as mills are best" may be misleading. It is likely because the stone resembles rice balls with granular spots. If this stone is unavailable, old millstones near the teeth of flour mills can substitute, taking advantage of their wheat-like properties. Repeated trials show effectiveness. This stone is sometimes not sold in markets. To obtain it, search in streams for gray stones containing white mineral grains the size of bean rice. These stones vary in size: some fist-sized, some goose-egg sized, some cup-sized, roughly resembling a handful of wheat-rice. [Harvest Time] Anytime. [Texture] Resembles wheat-rice balls. [Color] Yellowish-white. [Odor] Rotten. [Processing] No limit on quantity. Burn with charcoal fire until red-hot, quench in good strong rice vinegar. Repeat quenching ten times, then grind into powder. Sieve again to remove coarse particles, take the fine powder, place in a mortar, and have several people take turns grinding for five to seven days until extremely fine like flour. If not fine enough, application to sores causes unbearable pain. [Compound Treatment] Take two liang of fine powder, combine with one fresh Lu Jiao (Deer Antler), including the whole brain bone, cut into 2-3 cun lengths. Burn with charcoal until smoke ceases, grind and sieve into powder, then grind in mortar until extremely fine. Mix four liang of Deer Antler powder with two liang of Bai Lian (Mallow Root) powder. Add three years' aged good rice vinegar to a silver or ceramic vessel, boil until fish-eye bubbles appear. Slowly add the previous powder mixture, stir constantly with a bamboo spatula for one to two hours until the consistency is appropriate. Pour into a porcelain basin, let cool, cover with paper to prevent dust contamination. When using, first wash the pus and blood from the yong sore clean with pig trotter soup, dry with an old cloth. Dip a goose feather in the ointment and apply around the perimeter. Cover all red areas, leaving only a central hole the size of a coin to drain pus and blood, allowing heat-toxin qi to exit. If the pus has not ruptured, it promotes internal resolution; if already ruptured, it drains pus rapidly like swift water. Daily observation shows wound contraction. If the sore is chronic with rotting flesh and exposed bones/tendons, apply the medicine-soaked old cloth to the sore; even without perforating the membrane, it brings relief. Do not touch tender flesh with hands when washing, do not blow breath on the sore, and avoid participation by individuals with axillary odor, menstruating women, or pregnant women during preparation. [Substitute] If this stone is unavailable, substitute with old millstones near the teeth of flour mills.
