Has slight toxicity, grows in soil.
Miduoseng (Lead Monoxide) primarily treats chronic dysentery, five types of hemorrhoids (Wuzhi), metallic wounds (Jinchuang), and facial scars. It is also used in the preparation of facial cosmetics (Recorded by famous physicians). [Name] Meduoseng. [Origin] *Tujing* states: Old texts do not record the specific provinces or regions of origin. Annotations state it originates from Persia; currently, it is also found in the silver and copper smelting areas of Lingnan and Minzhong. During initial ore mining, silver and copper are mixed. First, they are smelted together with lead, causing the silver to separate along with the lead. Mountain tree leaves are collected and burned to ash. A furnace is dug into the ground and filled with this ash, called a "ash pool." Silver and lead are placed on top of the ash, and intense fire is applied for heavy smelting. The lead seeps down into the ash, while the silver consolidates on top of the ash. After the fire cools, the silver is extracted. This ash pool, influenced by the qi of lead and silver over time, forms this substance, which is essentially the residue of silver and lead smelting. The Miduoseng used today is often this material, not necessarily imported from Hu lands (foreign countries). Its shape resembles Dragon Yellow Teeth (Huanglongchi); those that are hard and heavy are considered superior. (*Bielu* records): What is sold in markets today is sometimes made by forging lead red powder (Qiandan) inside porcelain bottles into blocks; larger pieces still retain the bottle's shape. Those produced from silver smelting are the best but rare; those imported from foreign countries have never been seen. [Harvest Time] Available at any time. [Quality Standard] Golden-colored ones are preferred. [Texture] Similar to Dragon Yellow Teeth, hard and heavy. [Color] Yellow. [Flavor] Salty, Pungent. [Nature] Neutral, soft. [Qi Characteristics] Strong odor, belongs to Yin within Yang. [Odor] Fishy. [Main Actions] Astringes diarrhea, removes... [Preparation] Leigong says: When using Miduoseng, first grind it into fine powder, place it in a porcelain crucible, and put it inside a thick silk bag containing willow branch powder. Roast the Miduoseng in the crucible, then add water from the eastern flow until submerged. Boil over fire for one fu period (approx. 4-5 hours). Remove the willow powder and silk bag, and use the remaining substance. [Therapeutic Effects] *Shu Ben Zhu* notes: Treats various hemorrhoids and continuous bleeding from intestinal dysentery. *Ri Hua Zi* states: Calms the heart, benefits the five zang organs, treats fright seizures, cough, vomiting, and expectoration. *Bielu* states: Treats mouth ulcers, smallpox scars, and facial pigmentation spots. [Combined Treatment] Mixed with human milk and applied to the face to treat spots, promote facial radiance, and treat...
Non-toxic, grows in stones.
Corallium (Coral) treats old blood stasis, removes eye nebulae (cataracts/opacities), and treats epistaxis (nosebleeds). Grind into powder and insufflate into the nose (Recorded by famous physicians). [Origin] *Tujing* states: Grows in the South Sea, as well as in Persia and Shizi Country (Sri Lanka). Currently, it is also available in Guangzhou. It grows underwater in branching structures, bright and lustrous like red jade. Many have pores, while some do not. Branches with more divisions are rarer. *Haizhong Jing* records: To harvest coral, an iron net is sunk to the bottom. Coral grows through the net. It grows three to two chi tall per year, having branches but no leaves. Because pulling up the net breaks them, intact specimens are hard to obtain. In the Han Dynasty, there was one over one zhang high in Jicui Pool; in Jin Dynasty, Shi Chong had one six to seven chi high. Such large specimens are no longer heard of. *Yanyi* records: One variety has a red-oil color with fine longitudinal veins, which is lovely. Another variety has the color of lead red powder without longitudinal veins and is considered inferior. For medicinal use, the red-oil colored variety is chosen. I once saw a specimen about one chi high, with two main branches growing straight up, dividing into over ten sub-branches. Near the tips, they intertwined and connected, remaining red and lustrous with longitudinal veins, which is also a unique feature. When first born, it is white like mushrooms; after one year it turns yellow; after three years it turns red. Branches intertwine, reaching three to four chi in height. The roots are netted and twisted out. If not harvested in time, they rot. [Harvest Time] Available at any time. [Quality Standard] Red ones with fine longitudinal veins are superior. [Texture] Similar to Langgan (a mythical gem) and lustrous. [Color] Red. [Flavor] Sweet. [Nature] Mild and smooth. [Qi Characteristics] Weak odor, belongs to Yang within Yin. [Odor] Rotten/Old wood smell. [Main Actions] Calms the heart, stops fright, reduces...
