[Baizi Ren (Biota Seed)]
The flavor is sweet and the nature is neutral, non-toxic. It primarily brightens the eyes, lightens the body, and unblocks the spirit (Shen).
The flavor is sweet and the nature is neutral, non-toxic. It treats palpitations and fright (Jingji), tonifies Qi, dispels wind-dampness, and calms the five Zang organs. Long-term consumption makes the skin lustrous and complexion beautiful, ears and eyes sharp and clear, prevents hunger and aging, lightens the body, and extends longevity.
(Cypress trees grow everywhere; among their fruits, those from Mount Tai are considered superior, while currently those from Shanzhou, Yizhou, and Ganzhou are regarded as excellent. There are several varieties of cypress; the variety with flat leaves growing on one side is named Ce Bai Ye (Cacumen Platycladi) and can be used as medicine. The seeds all come from Juniperus chinensis (Round-leaved Cypress); if they come from the side-growing cypress, they are particularly exquisite, though hard to obtain. The kernel is yellowish-white, fragrant in odor, and rich in oily fluid. While most trees face the sun, cypress uniquely faces west; hence the character "Bai" contains "Bai" (White), which represents the West. *Pi Ya* states: "The direction of cypress branches to the west is like a magnetic needle pointing south." Kou Zongshi said: "When I served as an official in Shaanxi, looking up at the cypresses from a height, thousands of them all pointed westward.")
Ce Bai Ye does not wither through winter, having inherited the Qi of Taiyang Cold Water. Baizi Ren is yellow and fragrant, having inherited the Qi of Taiyin Damp Earth. As the essence of water nourishes upwards, it treats palpitations caused by the disharmony between Heart and Kidney. As the Qi of earth fills internally, it tonifies Qi and dispels wind-dampness. By treating palpitations, tonifying Qi, and dispelling wind-dampness, the five Zang organs become harmonious, thus calming the five Zang organs. Rich in oily fluids, long-term consumption makes the person lustrous and beautiful, with sharp ears and eyes; with the five Zang organs calm and harmonious, and body fluids moistening and irrigating, one feels no hunger nor signs of aging, resulting in a light body and extended longevity.
[Ce Bai Ye (Cacumen Platycladi)]
The flavor is bitter, the nature is slightly warm, non-toxic. It treats hematemesis (vomiting blood), epistaxis (nosebleed), bloody stool, leukorrhea and metrorrhagia with red and white discharge, lightens the body, tonifies Qi, enables endurance of cold and heat, dispels damp-bi syndrome, and generates flesh. (Attached from *Bie Lu*).
Plants that withstand the cold of years and do not shed leaves in winter possess Yang within Yin. Winter governs Taiyang Cold Water; the Water Mansion belongs to Taiyang, and the Water Zang belongs to Shaoyin. Ce Bai Ye inherits the Qi of Cold Water, with Taiyang as its exterior manifestation (Biao), and inherits the Qi of Shaoyin, with Ministerial Fire as its interior root (Ben); therefore, its flavor is bitter and nature slightly warm. Treating hematemesis, epistaxis, bloody stool, and metrorrhagia/leukorrhea utilizes the Yin Qi of Water to nourish the blood. Lightening the body, tonifying Qi, enabling endurance of cold and heat, dispelling damp-bi, and generating flesh utilizes the Biao of Taiyang and the Ben of Shaoyin to tonify and benefit the Yang Qi. Baizi Ren has a sweet and neutral flavor, thus inheriting Taiyang Cold Water and simultaneously obtaining Taiyin Earth Qi. Ce Bai Ye has a bitter and slightly warm flavor, thus...
