味甘，性平，有小毒。能止崩漏及带下病，止鼻出血及便血；消散癖积症瘕，通月经闭阻及血凝。
补血安胎，止崩漏及乳汁不下。平息痈肿并治疗金疮（刀箭创伤），强健筋骨并治疗腰痛。
用麦麸炒制。陈久的药材效果更佳。
味苦、酸，微寒，无毒。归足阳明胃经。能降气消食，开郁结破积滞。消除胸胁部的痰癖，治疗心腹痞满胀闷。退除皮内的风痒，清除胃中的湿热。止泻痢并平息喘咳，通利停蓄之水饮并消散败血，促进肌肉生长并疏通脏腑，消除阳痿并止胁痛。驱逐痰饮，消解痞块与食积，具有冲墙破壁般的强力。
生于河内川谷，洛西江湖等地均有出产，以商州所产者为佳。树木像橘子树但较小，高五七尺，叶子像橙树叶，多刺。春月采摘的为果实，皮厚而小。九月十月采摘的为壳，完整大而薄。

枳术散：由枳实、白术组成。研为散剂服用。治疗心下坚硬如盘，脉象实的症状。（诸方第一。）
Bitter, neutral, non-toxic. Dispels wind and removes dampness, promotes digestion and diuresis, improves hearing and vision, moistens the complexion and relieves thirst. Used for washing wind-induced pruritus and dry skin, treating edema (Shuǐqì) and Hong Kong foot (Zúchuāng), eliminating Hong Kong foot caused by water qi; stir-fry until fragrant, decoct and take orally. (Verified Formula 1)
Arm pain due to wind-heat. Same usage as above. (2.)
Generalized body pruritus, decoct with water and wash externally. (3.)
Tetany of the four limbs, taken internally or washed externally. (4.)
Sweet, neutral, slightly toxic. Stops metrorrhagia and leukorrhea, epistaxis and hematochezia; resolves accumulations and masses, unblocks amenorrhea and blood stasis.
Nourishes blood and calms the fetus, stops metrorrhagia and galactostasis. Calms carbuncles and treats traumatic injuries, strengthens sinews and bones and treats lower back pain.
Stir-fried with wheat bran. Older stored material is superior.
Bitter, sour, slightly cold, non-toxic. Enters the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian. Directs Qi downward, promotes digestion, opens stagnation and breaks accumulation. Eliminates phlegm-rheum in the chest and hypochondrium, treats epigastric and abdominal fullness and distension. Relieves cutaneous pruritus, clears damp-heat in the stomach. Stops dysentery and calms wheezing, promotes urination to remove retained fluids and dissipates blood stasis, promotes muscle growth and benefits the Zang-Fu organs, cures impotence and relieves hypochondriac pain. Drives out phlegm-fluids, resolves masses and food stagnation, possessing the power to break through walls and fortresses.
Grows in rivers and valleys of Henei, and lakes and rivers of Luoxi; that from Shangzhou is best. The tree resembles a citrus tree but is smaller, five to seven chi high, leaves resemble orange leaves, thorny. Harvested in spring are the fruits, with thick and small peel. Harvested in the ninth and tenth months are the shells, complete, large and thin.
Sudden angina pectoris (Xiōngbì), take as powder. (Verified Formula 1.)
Chronic dysentery in children. Same usage as above. (2.)
Swelling, hardness and pain in the female genitalia, stir-fry, crush, wrap in cloth and apply hot compress.
Turbid Qi (Bēntún) pain, stir-fry, grind into powder and take. (4.)
Cephalic sores in children, burn to ash, mix with lard and apply topically. (5.)
Zhishi Zhuzhu San (Bitter Orange and Atractylodes Powder): Composed of Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange) and Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala). Grind into powder and take. Treats hardness under the heart resembling a plate, with excess pulse. (Various Formulas 1.)
Zhixie Guizhi Tang (Bitter Orange, Macrostemon, and Cinnamon Twig Decoction): Composed of Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange), Houpo (Magnolia Bark), Gualou (Trichosanthes Fruit), Xiebai (Macrostemon Rhizome), and Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig). Treats knotting and fullness in the chest and heart, Qi rushing from the hypochondrium to the heart. (2.)
Zhishi Shaoyao San (Bitter Orange and White Peony Powder): Composed of Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange) and Baishao (White Peony Root). Grind into powder and take. Treats postpartum abdominal pain. (3.)
