Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex), with a sweet and slightly pungent taste, is cold in nature. Its action can ascend or descend, belonging to the category of Yin within Yang. It enters the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian. It assists Yuan Qi (Original Qi), treats emaciation due to deficiency and exhaustion, clears Fire Evil (pathogenic fire), stops asthma, cough, and hemoptysis, promotes urination to reduce edema, relieves thirst, and dispels phlegm. For knife wounds, after suturing, applying hot chicken blood to the closed wound can lead to healing.
The efficacy of Sangye (Mori Folium) is superior to that of Sangbaipi. It is best at replenishing bone marrow, adding essence to the Kidneys, stopping excessive sweating, filling the brain and improving vision, invigorating blood and generating body fluids, aiding conception and calming the fetus, harmonizing blood vessels, unblocking joints, stopping vomiting and diarrhea caused by cholera, eliminating wind-dampness and cold-bi syndrome, and reducing edema and foot swelling. Elderly men can use it to support decline and delay aging, while elderly women can use it to restore youth and even bear children.
Sangshen (Mori Fructus) specifically darkens beard and hair, and is particularly effective in relieving thirst, moistening dryness, replenishing essence, and benefiting the brain. Comparing these three products, Sangbaipi is inferior to Sangshen, but Sangshen is inferior to Sangye. Predecessors did not analyze them clearly, and the general public was unaware. I received personal instruction from the Heavenly Master Qibo, learning that for elderly men and women unable to conceive, preparing a formula using Sangye allows those over the age of 64 (8x8 years) for men and 49 (7x7 years) for women to still have offspring. This revealed the wonder of Sangye, which surpasses other herbs that tonify True Yin. The Sangye used must be from the first harvest; leaves regrown after harvesting have half the efficacy.
One might doubt that Sangshen, being the essence of the mulberry tree, should naturally be superior to Sangye, and ask if my assertion that Sangshen is inferior stems from the difficulty of harvesting Sangye in all four seasons versus Sangshen only in April? I reply: The functions of Sangshen and Sangye are actually identical. Because Sangshen is difficult to harvest seasonally, and if processed improperly, its efficacy falls far short of Sangye. I now transmit the method so everyone may know. In April, harvest several dou of Sangshen, steam them until cooked in a rice pot, dry them, and then grind into powder. If Sangshen is not steamed until cooked, it will never dry; even if dried, the flavor dissipates, rendering it useless. Furthermore, it abhors iron vessels. However, steaming in an iron cooking pot causes no harm. This is a secret transmitted by Heavenly Master Qibo. When used together with Shudi (Prepared Rehmannia Root), Shanzhuyu (Cornus Officinalis Fruit), Wuweizi (Schisandra Chinensis Fruit), and Renshen (Ginseng Root), it truly becomes an elixir for longevity. I fear people do not know this processing method, hence I emphasize the uniqueness of Sangye alone. Essentially, without Sangshen, using Sangye yields similar efficacy. Purple Sangshen is of the first grade, red is second, and green is unusable. Harvest Sangye like tea; large leaves are first grade, slightly smaller are second, and smaller ones are third. Better to have larger leaves than smaller ones. If leaves are too large, they can only be decocted for soup and are unsuitable for pills and powders. For washing eyes, old Sangye should be selected; naturally fallen leaves are unusable.
