Wrapped in paper to remove the oil, take the frost (residue) for use. Qianjinzi (Seed of *Stellera chamaejasme*).

Pungent, warm, toxic. Moves water qi and breaks blood stasis, eliminates phlegm-nodules and removes swelling and fullness, transforms phlegm-fluids and dispels cold qi, promotes urination and defecation, and expels foul matter.

Used for sores, tinea, scabies, tumors, gu parasites, and ghost consumption (infectious chronic wasting diseases).

Grows in Shu Commandery; now widely produced in the southern regions. The plant resembles *Euphorbia* (Da Ji), initially producing a single stem with leaves at the tip, from which more leaves emerge. Flowers also resemble *Euphorbia*, emerging on stalks from among the leaves. Fruits are green with shells. Often cultivated in household gardens. The stems contain white juice that can coagulate mercury.

Those with smooth outer shells and red inner kernels are superior.

Pungent, sweet, toxic. Opens all orifices and unblocks all passages. Applied externally for facial paralysis (hemiplegia of the face), treats edema due to water qi. Crushed and inserted into the nose to treat nasal obstruction and deafness; smoked to treat throat bi (sore throat/swelling) and tongue swelling. Expels the placenta and reduces prolapsed rectum; applied topically for scrofula and malignant sores. Extracts thorns/needles embedded in flesh; relieves obstruction by bone or wood splinters. Most effective for drawing out pus and toxins; effective for asthma and coughing.

Available everywhere. Stems are either red or white, hollow inside. Leaves resemble those of the gourd (*Hu*), each leaf having five points. In summer and autumn, flower spikes appear between branches, bearing clusters of yellow-purple fruits. Each branch bears dozens of fruits; the shell resembles that of Croton seed (Ba Dou), containing seeds the size of beans with spots, resembling the tick (Niu Pi). Those with spiny outer shells have non-red interiors; those with smooth outer shells have red interiors.

For localized swelling and pain in an arm, crush and apply topically; heals overnight. (Verified Formula 1.)

For unilateral head qi-pain, crush together with Frankincense (Ruxiang) and salt, apply to Taiyang acupoint. (2.)

For prolapsed rectum, crush and apply to Dantian acupoint; restores overnight. (3.)

For hemiplegia and atrophy of limbs, take the oil, decoct with sheep fat, Musk (Shexiang), and Pangolin Scales (Chuanshanjia) to make a plaster; massage several times daily, recover after more than a month. Internally administer formulas that search for wind, transform phlegm, and nourish blood. (4.)

For facial deviation, make a plaster; apply to the right side if left-sided, and vice versa. (5.)

For headache due to wind-qi, crush with Frankincense into a cake, apply to Taiyang acupoint. (6.)

For nasal obstruction unable to smell odors, use 300 seeds and one large date, crush into paste, insert into nose, change daily, heal in one month. (7.)

For bleeding from the tongue, take oil, roll into paper, burn to smoke, and fumigate the nose. (8.)

For tongue swelling filling the mouth, fumigate the mouth as above. (9.)

For throat bi with locked jaw, as above. (10.)

For urinary retention, take oil, roll into paper, insert into urethra, heals immediately. (11.)

To induce labor and expel placenta, crush seven seeds, apply to Yongquan acupoint (soles of feet); expels quickly. (12.)

For uterine prolapse, crush and apply to Baihui acupoint (vertex of head). (13.)

For retained placenta, take one pill monthly, swallow with wine. (14.)

For all types of swollen toxins with severe pain, crush and apply topically. (15.)

For sudden deafness, use 100 seeds, 15 large dates, and milk to form pills. Wrap in cotton, insert into ear, change daily until ear feels hot; heals in 20 days. (16.)

For freckles on the face, mix Ledong Stone (Miduoseng) and Sulfur into powder, blend with sheep marrow, apply nightly. (17.)

For yellowing hair not turning black, take clean kernels, fry in sesame oil until charred, strain, brush scalp frequently after three days. (18.)

For scalds and burns, crush with Arca Shell Powder (Ge Fen); for scalds mix with oil, for burns mix with water, apply topically. (19.)

For needles embedded in flesh, take one clean kernel, crush into paste, place cloth under wound, apply. (20.)

For leprosy with collapsed nose, curled fingers, and severe joint pain, take 1 liang of clean kernels and 1 liang of Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian), soak in water in a small bottle for three days. Then take one clean kernel, split open, swallow with water. Gradually increase to 4-5 pills; mild diarrhea is acceptable. Refill water when exhausted. After two months, may consume garlic and pork. If it recurs, take again until no recurrence. (21.)

For asthmatic phlegm and cough, use frosted Ricinus Leaf (Bima Ye), frosted Mulberry Leaf (Sang Ye), and Poppy Shell (Mi Ke), honey-pill to bean size. Take 5 pills with warm water. (22.)

For foot-wind swelling and numbness, steam Ricinus leaves, crush, and wrap around affected area; change three times daily. (23.)

For epistaxis, smear sesame oil on Ricinus leaves, heat, and moxa/press on Fontanelle (Xin). (24.)

For iron needles in flesh, mix Ricinus pulp, Calcined Alum (Duan Shi), and red sorghum rice, crush into paste, apply; needle comes out. (25.)

For cervical lymph node tuberculosis like eggs, apply with Yam Paste (Shanyao Gao). (26.)
