生长在上郡阳山山谷，现在江东、陕西、泰山、汉中、湖湘等地都有。一根茎上有数根枝条，茎粗如线，一根茎分三个叉，每个叉长三片叶子，像杏叶一样非常薄且细，边缘有微小的刺。

Remove the heart, soak in licorice water until dry. It is incompatible with Zhenzhu (Pearl) and Lili (Veratrum), but works well when combined with Fuling (Poria), Dongkui (Malva Seed), and Longgu (Fossilized Bones).
Bitter, pungent, slightly warm, non-toxic. A herb entering the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. It strengthens willpower and benefits the kidneys, tonifies essence and boosts yang, cures forgetfulness, calms the soul, promotes muscle growth, and treats Ben Tun (Rushing Pig disease). It is an excellent remedy for improving hearing and vision, and a spiritual pill for unblocking the kidneys and calming the mind.
Grows in Mount Tai and Ji Yin, Yanzhou. It resembles Mahuang (Ephedra) but is greenish. Harvested in April. The seedling is called Xiaocao (Small Grass), commonly used in ancient prescriptions; nowadays, physicians only use Yuanzhi (Polygala Root) and rarely use Xiaocao.
For various carbuncles and sores, grind into powder, decoct in wine, filter, and drink; apply the dregs externally. (Verified Formula 1.)
For Chu Ru (Breast Abscess) causing swelling and pain. Use as above. (2.)
For severe Brain Wind headache that is unbearable, insufflate the powder into the nose. (3.)
For Hou Bi (Sore Throat) causing pain, insufflate the powder to expel saliva. (4.)
For Heart orifice obstruction and frequent forgetfulness: secretly buy Yuanzhi at the market on a Ding-You day, place it in the corner of a headscarf, grind into powder, and take orally without letting others know. (5.)
For Chi Zhuo (Red Turbid Urine), combine with Gancao (Licorice), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood), and Yizhi (Alpinia Oxyphylla), make into pills with wine. (6.)
Stir-fry with sheep fat; works best with wine. Shanyao (Dioscorea Rhizome) acts as a guiding drug.
Sweet, neutral, non-toxic. Enters the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian, Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian, Sanjiao (Triple Burner) Meridian, and Mingmen (Gate of Life). Strengthens sinews and bones, relieves joint stiffness and spasms, expels wind-cold, and treats skin numbness bi-syndrome. For Yang Wei (Impotence), men should take it long-term; for women with Yin exhaustion and infertility, women should take it regularly.
Grows in valleys of Yang Mountain, Shang Commandery. Now found in Jiangdong, Shaanxi, Mount Tai, Hanzhong, and Huxiang regions. One root produces several stems, thick as a thread. Each stem has three branches, each branch has three leaves, resembling thin and fine apricot leaves with slightly serrated edges containing tiny spines.
For skin numbness, steep in wine and take regularly. (Verified Formula 1.)
For Yang Wei (Impotence) and cold lower back and knees. Use as above. (2.)
For post-illness Qing Mang (blindness), if recent, take with Douchi (Fermented Soybeans). (3.)
