嫩苗名紫草茸。与根皆入药。
主治。凉血。解毒。通九窍。消肿毒。
紫草冬葵汤。紫草茸一钱二分。冬葵子一钱五分。栀子黄芩各一钱二分。秦艽苦参各一
钱一分。露蜂房白茯苓木通白芍泽泻车前子各一钱。蝉蜕八分。锉碎水煎。每服四五钱。空
腹下。治小便不通。毒瓦斯闭塞。溺时痛甚欲死者。加川牛膝一钱三分。溺赤如血者。加黄连
一钱三分。溺血加当归川芎龙骨（ ）菟丝子各一钱。溺赤甚者。加生地一钱三分。溺白者。
加使君子一钱三分。川连一钱一分。韭子（研）一钱二分。溺浊甚者。加桑螵蛸一钱。
按此药向为痘症要品。现可用以解毒利便。白芨（即白及） 主治。补肺。生肌。止血。
疗刀斧伤。
白芨枇杷丸。白芨一两。枇杷叶（去毛蜜炙）藕节各五钱。研末。阿胶五钱。（蛤粉炒
成
珠）生地自然汁调火上炖化。入药末和丸龙眼大。每服一丸。口噙化下。治咳嗽吐血。
白芨莲须散。白芨一两。莲花须（金色者佳）侧柏叶沙参各五钱。研细末。每服二钱。
藕
节汁生地汁磨好墨调如稀糊。啜服。治咳血。
跌打骨折。白芨末二钱。酒调服。
刀斧伤损。白芨石膏（ ）等分为末。掺患处。亦可收口。
按此为治各种吐血特效之药。能补肺止血。无他流弊。
嫩芽称为紫草茸。它与根部都可以入药。
紫草冬葵汤：紫草茸一钱二分，冬葵子一钱五分，栀子、黄芩各一钱二分，秦艽、苦参各一钱一分，露蜂房、白茯苓、木通、白芍、泽泻、车前子各一钱，蝉蜕八分。切碎后用水煎煮。每次服用四五钱，空腹时服用。治疗小便不通，毒气闭塞，排尿时疼痛剧烈甚至欲死的情况。若伴有小便不利，加川牛膝一钱三分；若尿液赤红如血，加黄连一钱三分；若尿血，加当归、川芎、龙骨、菟丝子各一钱；若尿色深赤，加生地黄一钱三分；若尿色发白，加使君子一钱三分、川黄连一钱一分、韭菜子（研碎）一钱二分；若尿浑浊严重，加桑螵蛸一钱。
按语：此药过去是治疗痘症的重要药材，现在可用于解毒和通利小便。
白及枇杷丸：白及一两，枇杷叶（去毛后用蜂蜜炙烤）、藕节各五钱。研成粉末。阿胶五钱（用蛤粉炒成珠状），用生地黄自然汁在火上炖化，加入药末调和制成龙眼大小的丸剂。每次服用一丸，含在口中慢慢化服。治疗咳嗽吐血。
白及莲须散：白及一两，莲花须（以金色的为佳）、侧柏叶、沙参各五钱。研成细末。每次服用二钱。用藕节汁、生地黄汁磨好的墨汁调成稀糊状，冲服。治疗咳血。
The tender shoots are called Zicao Rong (Purple Gromwell Sprouts). Both the shoots and the roots are used as medicine.
Main indications: Cool blood, detoxify, unblock the nine orifices, reduce swelling and eliminate toxic sores.
Zicao Dongkui Decoction (Purple Gromwell and Abutilon Seed Decoction): Zicao Rong 1.2 qian, Dongkuizi 1.5 qian, Zhizi and Huangqin each 1.2 qian, Qinjiao and Kushen each 1.1 qian, Lufengfang, Baifuling, Mutong, Baishao, Zexie, and Cheqianzi each 1 qian, Chantui 0.8 qian. Cut into pieces and decoct in water. Take 4-5 qian per dose, on an empty stomach. Treats urinary retention due to blockage by toxic pathogens, with severe pain during urination that feels like dying. If accompanied by difficult urination, add Chuanniuxi 1.3 qian; if urine is red like blood, add Huanglian 1.3 qian; if hematuria, add Danggui, Chuanxiong, Longgu, and Tusizi each 1 qian; if urine is deeply red, add Shengdihuang 1.3 qian; if urine is white, add Shijunzi 1.3 qian, Chuanlianhuan 1.1 qian, and Jiu Zi (crushed) 1.2 qian; if turbid urine is severe, add Sangpiaoxiao 1 qian.
Note: This herb was formerly a key ingredient for treating smallpox/variolous diseases, but can now be used for detoxification and promoting diuresis.
Baiji (Bletilla Rhizome) main indications: Tonify the lung, generate flesh, stop bleeding, treat injuries from knives or axes.
Baiji Pipa Wan (Bletilla and Loquat Leaf Pill): Baiji 1 liang, Pipaye (de-haired and honey-fried) and Ou jie each 5 qian. Grind into powder. Ejiao 5 qian (fried with Ge fen until pearl-like), melt using natural juice of Shengdihuang over heat, mix with the powder to form pills the size of a longan fruit. Take one pill per dose, holding it in the mouth to dissolve slowly. Treats coughing up blood.
Baiji Lianxu San (Bletilla and Lotus Stamen Powder): Baiji 1 liang, Lianhua xu (golden ones are best), Ce bai ye, and Shashen each 5 qian. Grind into fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose. Mix with juice from Ou jie and Shengdihuang, along with ink ground from lotus root juice, to form a thin paste, then take orally. Treats hemoptysis.
Traumatic fractures: Take 2 qian of Baiji powder, mixed with wine, and ingest.
Knife or axe wounds: Mix equal parts of Baiji and Shigao into powder, apply to the affected area. It can also help close the wound.
Note: This is a highly effective remedy for various types of hematemesis. It tonifies the lung and stops bleeding without adverse side effects.
