Treatment of abdominal pain caused by roundworms: *Jiusheng Kuhai* (Life-Saving Bitter Sea) records taking the inner layer of Qishu Chai (Pinus massoniana bark), burning it to ash, grinding it into fine powder, and administering with wine, or mixing three qian with boiling water. It can also eradicate the root cause.
Tetanus: *Baicao Jing* (Mirror of a Hundred Herbs) records scraping off the outer rough bark of Qishu, taking the inner white bark, pounding it into a paste, decocting with wine for oral administration. The dregs are mixed with white flour, pounded, and applied topically to the affected area for self-healing.
*Baicao Jing* further states: This grows on old trees, resembling a tumor. Cypress possesses a nature pointing westward, inheriting the Qi of Western Dui Metal; thus, it can calm Stomach Earth and treat stomachache, relying on the principle of mutual containment of Qi.
Treating stomachache.
*Bencao Gangmu* mentions Bai Shi (Cupressi Semen) but not its shell. Recently, *Qigong San* utilizes it.
Antidote for Arsenic Poisoning: *Rushen Jiyuan Liangfang · Qigong San* (Miraculous Efficacy Collection · Miraculous Powder) records using three qian of Baizi Ke (Cupressi Semen Shell) and three qian of roasted red earth, ground together into powder, mixed with egg white for oral administration, followed by two doses.
Songpi Gao (Pine Bark Ointment)
This refers to the cones formed by Shan Song (Pinus tabuliformis). Initially green, they eventually crack into scale-like shapes, opening in four directions and falling. Children collect them, filling baskets to sell at markets to tea stalls as charcoal substitute, which enhances tea flavor. For medicinal use, the young and tender ones are selected. *Bencao Gangmu* lists Song Shi (Pine Seed) under Pine, stating it appears in the Fruit Section, unaware that the Fruit Section refers to Haizisongzi (Pinus koraiensis seed), produced in Guandong, distinct from Shan Song. Inside Shan Song cones, even old ones contain seeds fine as millet grains, unsuitable for food.
White Spot Disease: *Jiabao Fang* (Family Treasure Formula) records first washing with a decoction of Cong (Allii Fistulosi Rhizoma), Huajiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma). Then, apply young green pine cones dipped in egg white and Liu Huang (Sulfur), ground into powder.
Color like amber, produced in Yili and other places in the Western Regions. *Xiyu Wenjian Lu* (Records of Observations in the Western Regions) states: Dihua was renamed Dihua Prefecture in the 40th year of Qianlong. Local people use pine bark, which is warm in nature, treating blood disorders, all types of deficiency consumption, and women's amenorrhea due to blood dryness or obstruction, with effective results.
Chen Haishu possessed this ointment, brought from the Western Regions. It is black as lacquer, covered with a piece of pine bark said to be two or three chi thick, boiled from this very bark. It was once used to treat chronic cough; after ten days, symptoms alleviated; after another ten days, the disease cured; after yet another ten days, flesh regenerated, gradually returning to normal. Each dose was three qian, taken orally with plain water on an empty stomach. A one-month course invariably resulted in recovery.
*Huai Xi Za Zhi* (Miscellaneous Records from Huai West) states: When Tian Gengye served as official in Liangzhou Garrison, he brought back a piece of Wan Nian Song (Ten-Thousand-Year Pine). It is warm in nature and invigorates blood; its decoction is amber-colored. It effectively treats women's amenorrhea due to blood dryness or obstruction. Relatives and friends sought it until it ran out. Later, upon visiting the Western Regions, I saw the tree itself. The upright ancient pine bark is not a different species. Locals boil it as tea substitute, possessing a slight fragrance. The largest specimens have roots at the bottom of thousand-ren deep ravines, branches extending straight over mountain ridges, reaching twenty to thirty zhang high. The bark is over two chi thick. His servant Wu Yubao once took a piece to make a bed, feeling it resembled artifacts from the time of Pangu. The name "Ten-Thousand-Year" is indeed not false.
