Shamazhong (Sesame Worm) grows in the stems of sesame plants. It typically climbs from bottom to top at the third watch (midnight to 2 a.m.) to feed on dew at the apex, and descends by the fifth watch (3 a.m. to 5 a.m.). Therefore, it should be collected at night. Its nature is hot and it assists Yang Qi (vital energy). It can be used within curtains or mosquito nets.
To treat hemorrhoidal fistulas: Use Shamazhong (green, silkworm-like), dry it by roasting, grind it into powder, and take it with boiled water, one qian daily. After seven days of administration, the fistula tract will naturally discharge.
Li's Grass Secret records: The insect growing in tung oil trees is the Mu Du Chong (wood-boring worm). It is most effective for treating malignant swellings and toxic sores. Take seven specimens, roast them, grind them into powder, mix with wine, and ingest; recovery follows immediately.
Li's Grass Secret records: An insect grows in the nodes of Achyranthes bidentata (Niu Xi) grass; it must be processed by soaking in sesame oil.
To treat toxic sores on the fingertips, where pain is unbearable day and night, apply this preparation to the affected area for immediate cure.

Zhu Lezhi states: In mountain herbs, there exists an ant nest formed by the leaves of grasses and trees. The larger ones are as big as a dou (a unit of volume). When collected in winter, the ants have already moved into the soil and are no longer in the nest.
Life-Saving Bitter Sea records: Mountain ant nests are deep...
They grow among the roots of large trees in mountains and are sought during the eleventh month or the first month when vegetation is withered. There are two types. One type is as large as a sheng or dou, yellow in color, soft, resembling dried rotten yellow leaves or flexible leather paper. The outer skin of the nest has layered brush-stroke patterns forming halos, resembling a tiger's head, commonly known as "Tiger-Head Ant Nest." It is unknown what creature constructs it. It contains many internal tendons made of pine needles, grass stems, etc., which must be removed along with soil before use. The other type is white, composed of soil, resembling pine bark in shape, and is ground for medicinal use.
For chronic non-healing ulcers, applying the nest promotes wound closure.
To treat bleeding from knife wounds: Life-Saving Bitter Sea records: Use the mountain ant nest, remove internal tendons and soil, wrap the wound, and bind with cloth to stop bleeding and promote healing.
Tinea Capitis (Bald Sores): Zhou's Prescribed Formula records: Use the soil from inside the mountain ant nest, mix with saline brine, and apply topically; cure occurs within several days.
Formation of Scabs: When pus and necrotic tissue of a sore have been completely expelled, new flesh has grown, but the wound refuses to close, rub off grass and mud from the mountain ant nest, tear it open, and apply it to the site to induce scabbing and flesh regeneration.
Zhang Shenglai states: Mountain ants inhabit deep mountains and remote valleys. Their heads resemble tigers, their mandibles are sharp, and they possess wings allowing flight. When a tiger eats humans to satiety, it becomes drunk and vomits. Ants consume the residual saliva, transforming into a tiger-headed form with wings. They use their secreted saliva to bite tree sap and plant juices, mixing them with mountain soil to create mud, which they build into nests along branches. These nests are layered like honeycombs, containing internal platforms, with yellow and white patterns externally, as large as a dou, hanging from branches. Locals smoke out the ants upon sighting the nest and collect them for medicine.
The nest applied to metal blade injuries stops bleeding, alleviates pain, generates muscle, and closes wounds.
The platform within the nest treats Back Carbuncle (Fa Bei) and Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the King Toxicity.
The part of the nest clinging to branches treats Spinal Caries (Zhu Ji).
