(Qinglang) This mineral stone can raise Yin Qi (the ascending and warming energy of the body), and can be transformed into cinnabar (Dan). It is also known as Stone Pearl or Green Pearl. It is produced in Pingze, Shu Commandery. It can be collected at any time. (It neutralizes tin toxicity; it works well with Mercury [Shuiyin]; it is incompatible with Ugly Chicken Bone.)
This is what is referred to as Qingzhu and Huanghuan in the "Shudu Fu" (Rhapsody on Shu). Huanghuan is actually a plant; if classified solely based on similar names, its botanical family is entirely different. "Lang" is also the name of a tree on Mount Kun, and is also the name of Taidan in the "Jiuzhen Jing". This stone currently has no other use, except for treating Zushou Niling (deformity and swelling of hands and feet). As for the method of transforming it into cinnabar, the technique has not been definitively observed. (From *Xinxiu Bencao* page 66, *Daguan Bencao* Vol. 5, *Zhenghe Bencao* page 132)
(Fuqing) Taste: Pungent, Salty. Nature: Neutral. Toxicity: Non-toxic. Indications: Gu Du (poison caused by magical means or parasites), snake bites, poisoning from vegetables and meat, and various toxins, as well as E Chuang (malignant sores). It should not be taken for a long time. It causes emaciation. It is also known as Tuiqing or Tuishi. It is produced in the river valleys of Yizhou.
Neither secular medical formulas nor the "Xian Jing" (Immortal Classics) use this herb, and people no longer recognize each other's knowledge of it. (From *Xinxiu Bencao* page 57, *Daguan Bencao* Vol. 4, *Zhenghe Bencao* page 117)
(Shi) Taste: Pungent, Sweet. Nature: Very Hot. When raw, it is Warm; when cooked/processed, it is Cold. Toxicity: Toxic. Indications: Alternating chills and fever, Shu Lou (scrofula/lymphatic tuberculosis), erosive sores, dead flesh, Feng Bi (wind-damp bi-syndrome), Jianpi in the abdomen (hard masses in the abdomen), pathogenic factors, clearing heat. It brightens the eyes, directs Qi downward, clears heat in the diaphragm, stops Xiao Ke (wasting-thirst syndrome), benefits Liver Qi, breaks up accumulations, treats stubborn cold abdominal pain, and removes nasal polyps. Long-term use leads to tendon contraction. After being smelted by fire for one hundred days, take one Dao Gui (a small ancient measure). If taken without processing, it will kill humans and all beasts. It is also known as Qingfen Shi, Lizhi Shi, Guyang Shi, Bai Shiyuan, Da Baishi, Zerun, and Yan Shi. It is produced in the valleys of Hanzhong and Mount Shaoshi. It can be collected at any time. (Fire enhances its efficacy; Spine Needle [Jizhen] acts as its guide drug; it is incompatible with Du Gong, feces, Huzhang, and Xixin; it fears water.)
Currently, it is also found in Shu and Han regions, but the high-quality variety comes from Nan Ye Xi in Nankang, within the borders of Pengcheng, and KT south of Luoyang City. The Mount Shaoshi variety is usually selected. Placing the raw stone in water prevents the water from freezing, indicating that its nature is indeed very hot. Currently, it is wrapped in yellow clay mud and fired in charcoal for one day and one night until it crumbles, making it usable. It is excellent for treating Cold Jie (cold accumulation). Alchemical formulas and Huangbai Shu (alchemy techniques) mostly use this substance, as it is good at softening metals. Additionally, Bai Shiyuan is found in Xinning County in Xiangdong and in Lingling. (From *Xinxiu Bencao* Vol. 6)
