Taste: pungent, bitter. Nature: cold. Clears heat. Resolves toxicity. Kills parasites. If leeches are accidentally swallowed and cause accumulation, leading to abdominal distension, pain, jaundice, emaciation, and sallow complexion, drinking this water will expel them, resulting in recovery.
For throat diseases and dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), taking one cup warm is effective.
[Discussion] Li Shizhen (Binhu) stated that both waters are derived from Indigofera plants and iron slag, sharing the meaning of killing parasites and resolving toxicity. However, the therapeutic action of Indigo water lies in its ability to widely generate and distribute yang qi. As for the second rinse water of japonica rice (Jingmi Xitishui, i.e., the water obtained from the second washing of rice), it is clear and usable, hence the name. Taste: sweet. Nature: cold. Clears heat. Relieves upper jiao irritability and thirst. Promotes urination. Cools blood.
Taste: sweet. Nature: cool. Tonifies qi. Stops irritability and thirst associated with cholera-like disorders. Resolves toxicity. For indigestion after eating duck meat, drinking one cup at once facilitates digestion.
Collect in a bottle, seal tightly, and bury in clean soil; the longer it ages, the better.
Mainly treats xiaoke (wasting-thirst syndrome). Highly effective.
Mainly treats retained placenta. Take one cup. The patient should not be aware of the treatment.
All tonifying medicines and various pastes are best decocted using this fire. All "immortal medicines" must be decocted with mulberry wood to be effective. Mulberry trees are the essence of the Ji Star, capable of assisting medicinal power, dispelling wind-cold bi-syndrome and various pains. Long-term consumption prevents wind diseases throughout life. (From *Baopuzi*) Mulberry wood fire moxibustion treats carbuncles and sores that fail to suppurate or discharge pus, necrotic flesh that does not rot, as well as yin sores, scrofula, and flowing abscesses (luoli liuzhu). Ignite the fire and blow it out, apply moxibustion twice daily. Before ulceration, it draws out toxins and relieves pain; after ulceration, it supplements yang qi, removes necrotic tissue, and generates new muscle. Fire promotes free flow and draws out pent-up toxins; this is a contrary treatment method. (From Zhu Danxi) Mulberry wood benefits joints and nourishes body fluids. When exposed to fire, it draws out toxic qi and dispels wind-cold, thus enabling the removal of necrotic tissue and generation of new tissue. (From Li Shizhen) However, direct application of mugwort should be avoided to prevent skin damage.
Oak charcoal fire is suitable for refining all kinds of mineral drugs. Charcoal fire is suitable for decocting, roasting, and frying various pills and powders. Wood burned into charcoal does not rot when buried in soil, whereas wood rots over time, because wood possesses a "generative nature" while charcoal lacks it. Funeral homes use charcoal to prevent insects and ants from entering, allowing bamboo and tree roots to regenerate naturally, also due to its lack of generative nature. (From Li Shizhen) For white tiger wind-pain (severe migratory joint pain), where pain moves day and night and feels like biting in all joints, take five sheng of charcoal ash, one sheng of earthworm excrement, and seven pinches of safflower. Mix and roast together, blend with vinegar, wrap in two pieces of old cloth, and alternately apply hot compresses to the painful areas until effective.
