[Moyao Gao (Myrrh Ointment)]
Treats carbuncles, ulcers, and malignant sores that have not healed for a long time. It activates blood circulation, draws out toxins, generates flesh, relieves pain, and can also be applied to wounds resulting from moxibustion.
Herbs: Ruxiang (Frankincense) (separately ground), Moyao (Myrrh) (separately ground), Xuexie (Dragon's Blood) (separately ground). These three herbs are each taken in the amount of one qian; Muguzi (Mumegu Fruit) (washed and baked, finely chopped); Danggui (Angelica Sinensis) (washed and baked, two liang); Mahua You (Sesame Oil) (one jin).
Preparation: First, refine the sesame oil in a stone vessel until it is thoroughly cooked. Excluding Ruxiang, Moyao, Xuexie, and Huangdan (Lead Tetroxide), put all other herbs into the oil at once. Simmer over low heat until the herbs turn yellow-brown and crumble, and the oil reduces by three or four tenths. Filter through cotton cloth to remove dregs. Reheat the oil, add Huangdan, and stir continuously without stopping using more than ten willow wood spatulas. When a drop of the black liquid forms beads when dropped into water and has the appropriate consistency, add the previously ground three herbs (Ruxiang, Moyao, Xuexie), mix evenly, and store in a porcelain jar. Place it on cool, damp ground and cover with a basin to eliminate "fire toxicity." When needed, spread onto paper and apply to the sore, changing once daily.
[Shanying Baigao (Excellent Response White Ointment)]
Treats carbuncles, back abscesses (Fabei), and all kinds of swelling, toxic sores, joint pain, and tendon spasms; it also treats various contusions and injuries.
Herbs: Guangfen (White Lead Powder) (one jin, separately ground), Shanglu Fen (Phytolacca Root Powder) (two liang, raw), Xuduan (Dipsacus) (two liang), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis) (washed and baked), Chishaoyao (Red Peony Root), Baishaoyao (White Peony Root) (each one liang), Liupi (Willow Bark) (two liang), Xiangbaizhi (Angelica Dahurica), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum) (each half liang).
Preparation: Chop the above herbs to the size of hemp seeds. Use one jin of clear sesame oil, add the herbs in an iron pot or porcelain vessel, and fry over medium-low heat until the herbs turn black. Then remove the herb dregs and retain the clear oil. Reheat the oil, add Guangfen, and stir evenly with a willow twig until well combined with the oil. Test by dropping into water; it should not disperse. When applying, take a small amount of Ruxiang powder and apply to the affected area.
[Shenming Gao (Divine Ointment)]
Treats carbuncles, back abscesses, all kinds of swellings and sores, contusions and injuries, scalds, burns, and metal wounds.
Herbs: Gualou (Trichosanthes Fruit) (one fruit, peel removed, only the kernels used), Chishaoyao (Red Peony Root), Gancao (Licorice Root) (lightly roasted), Huangbo (Phellodendron Bark), Xingren (Apricot Seed) (soaked in hot water, skin and tips removed), Xiangbaizhi (Angelica Dahurica), Cangzhu (Atractylodes Rhizome) (soaked in rice wash water). The above three herbs (note: text layout implies specific grouping, extracting visible entities) are each half liang.
Preparation: Finely chop the above herbs. Soak them in fifteen liang of clear sesame oil for forty-nine days. After the period expires, pour the oil first into a silver pot, refine over low heat until fragrant and cooked, let cool, then add the herbs. Nourish over medium-low heat for one day until the herbs are half-charred, filter to remove dregs. Extract juice from three goose pears, add one and a half liang of Huangla (Beeswax) and Shexiang (Musk), mix evenly, and store in a new porcelain container. For internal injuries, take one qianbi dose, dissolve in wine, and ingest. For mouth ulcers, hold a small amount in the mouth to dissolve. For malignant sores that have failed to generate flesh for years, first clean with green onion soup, then apply the ointment. For nasal polyps (flesh bells), dip a paper twist in the ointment to apply; they can be removed within a month. For dry or wet tinea, wind-induced itching, and stubborn numbness, massage the area with the ointment.
