Pediatric patients are prone to this condition, caused by contracting the abnormal qi of the four seasons. The pathogenic factor stagnates in the skin, forming greenish-purple macules and patches of varying sizes, resembling grapes, appearing all over the body, head, and face; this is classified as a *Fu* organ syndrome (disease affecting the hollow organs). If the toxic pathogen transmits to the Stomach, it causes bleeding from the gum roots, and prolonged illness inevitably leads to deficiency. In the early stage, it is appropriate to administer Lingyang Jiao San (Antelope Horn Powder) to clear heat and cool blood. For prolonged cases, Weitai Tang (Stomach and Spleen Decoction) should be used to nourish and tonify the interior. In cases where gum root rot occurs, Renzhongbai San (Human Mid-White Powder) is indicated.
Modified Lingyang Jiao San (In this formula, herbs such as Yinhua [Lonicerae Flos], Qianghuo [Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix], Jiangcan [Bombyx Batryticatus], and Shengdi [Rehmanniae Radix] may be added at discretion.)
Ingredients: Lingyang Jiao (Antelope Cornu, ground into powder), Fangfeng [Saposhnikoviae Radix], Maidong [Ophiopogonis Tuber], Yuan Shen [Scrophulariae Radix], Zhi Mu [Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, stir-fried with wine], Huang Qin [Scutellariae Radix], Niubangzi [Arctii Fructus, ground and stir-fried], Gancao Jie [Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma node], Yinhua [Lonicerae Flos], and Dan Zhuye [Lophatheri Herba, more than ten leaves]. Decoct and take orally.
Weitai Tang This decoction should only be used when there is confirmed deficiency and insufficiency; do not administer lightly during the initial stage.
Ingredients: Baizhu [Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, stir-fried with earth], Fushen [Poria with Hostwood], Chenpi [Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium], Yuanzhi [Polygalae Radix, heart removed], Maidong [Ophiopogonis Tuber, heart removed], Shashen [Glehniae Radix], Wuweizi [Schisandrae Fructus, ground], Gancao Jie [Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma node].
For patients with weakness and spontaneous sweating, remove Shashen and add Renshen [Panacis Ginseng Radix] and [missing character, likely Huangqi or similar tonic].
Renzhongbai San Treats pediatric "Zouma Yagan" (running horse canker), characterized by rotten, black, and foul-smelling gums.
Ingredients: Renzhongbai [Calculus Humanus, calcined urine basin scale, 1 liang], Ercha [Catechu, 5 qian], Huangbai [Phellodendri Cortex], Bohe [Menthae Haplocalycis Herba], Qingdai [Indigo Naturalis, each 3 qian], Bingpian [Borneolum Syntheticum, 2 fen 5 li].
Grind together into fine powder. First rinse the mouth thoroughly with warm water, then blow the powder onto the canker. Apply 6-7 times daily. It is auspicious if saliva flows out externally after application; it is ominous if it recedes internally.
The symptoms manifest as throat obstruction (*Houbi*) with loss of voice, neck swelling, and abdominal distension resembling a toad. This condition is treated with Jingfang Baidu San (Schizonepeta and Saposhnikovia Decoction for Resolving Toxins).
Jingfang Baidu San
Ingredients: Jingjie [Schizonepetae Spica], Fangfeng [Saposhnikoviae Radix], Qianghuo [Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix], Duhuo [Angelicae Pubescentis Radix], Chaihu [Bupleuri Radix], Qianhu [Peucedani Radix], Jiegeng [Platycodonis Radix], Zhike [Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, stir-fried with bran], Chuanxiong [Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma, washed with wine], Fuling [Poria], Renshen [Panacis Ginseng Radix], Gancao [Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma].
Decoct with Shengjiang [Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens] and Congbai [Allii Fistulosi Bulbus]. Take after meals. If chills occur, double the amount of Congbai.
Symptoms include sore and swollen throat, thick and sticky nasal discharge and saliva, severe alternating chills and fever, body pain and stiffness, and constipation. These resemble *Shanghan* (Cold Damage) and are similar to Nianjing Wen (Neck-twisting Plague), distinguished only by the absence of abdominal distension. Treatment methods include cooling and dispersing, harmonizing, purging, and detoxifying, applied according to specific symptoms, ensuring recovery. Relevant formulas are scattered across various medical texts and will not be detailed here. A rapid treatment method involves, at the onset, using one's hand on the patient's arms to vigorously drive stagnant pathogenic qi and evil blood from the shoulder and neck down to the wrist several times. Tie the wrist tightly with a band to prevent the evil blood from dispersing. Then, prick the Shaoshang acupoint and the central thin flesh near the nail bed of all ten fingers with a needle, squeezing out the evil blood until cure is achieved. (Shaoshang [LU-11] is located on the radial side of the thumb, near the corner of the nail; press to find the depression which indicates the point.)
Another method involves holding salt water in the mouth and forcefully sucking the affected area of the neck until the skin turns red and purple in patches, indicating cure. Alternatively, pierce the lesion on the neck with a needle and use fingers to twist the needle hole to induce bleeding. Repeated piercing and twisting will lead to recovery.
