In cases where death results from having the mouth and nose covered with clothing or wet paper, the abdomen will be dry and distended.
If a person dies because an external object blocks the mouth and nose, preventing exhalation, the eyes will be open with protruding eyeballs, clear bloody fluid will flow from the mouth and nose, the face will appear dark red-black, the anus will protrude, and feces and urine will soil the clothes.
In cases of death caused by external pressure (Yin) [HT ], there will be purple-red swelling marks on the back of the ribs, approximately three to four cun in diameter, with intact skin. Palpation may reveal rib fractures; this is a critical and vulnerable area likely to cause fatal injury.
In cases of death by horse trampling, the corpse's flesh color is slightly yellow, hands are spread open, hair is not disheveled, and blood often flows from the mouth and nose, leaving black marks. If vital areas are trampled, death is immediate, accompanied by bone fractures and evisceration. If merely knocked down or if non-vital areas are trampled, only skin abrasions and purple-black contusions occur, without fatality. The footprint left by a donkey is smaller. Horn injuries from cattle, if the skin remains intact, present as red and swollen wounds. Such injuries commonly occur at the heart region, chest, lower abdomen, or hypochondrium, though one should not rigidly adhere to these locations.
In cases of death by wheel crushing, the muscle color is slightly yellow, mouth and eyes are open, hands are slightly clenched, and the hair bun is tight. Crushed areas are typically located at the epigastrium, chest, and bilateral hypochondria. Immediate death occurs if vital areas are crushed; otherwise, death does not ensue.
In cases of death by lightning strike, the corpse's flesh is scorched yellow, the body is soft and black, hands transition from clenched to open, mouth is open, eyes are staring, the hairline behind the ears is scorched yellow, and the hair bun is disheveled. Skin and flesh at burned sites are tight, hard, and contracted. Clothing may be burnt by heavenly fire. (Or not burnt). Injury traces are mostly found on the head and occiput. Cranial sutures are often split, and sideburns appear singed. From top to bottom, palm-sized patches of floating skin may appear, purple-red, with underlying muscle intact. Resembling seal script patterns may appear on the chest, neck, back, and shoulders.
In cases of death by tiger bite, the corpse's flesh is yellowish, mouth and eyes are mostly open, hands are clenched, hair is disheveled, feces are expelled, and wounds are irregular, showing signs of tongue licking and tooth biting. Tigers usually bite the head and neck. Claw marks and damage are visible on the body, wounds form cavities, sometimes exposing bone. Injuries occur at the heart region, chest, arms, and legs, with tiger tracks found on the ground. A painter should sketch the tiger tracks, and village officials and neighbors near the incident should provide testimony as evidence. (Another theory states: tigers bite the head and neck at the beginning of the month, the abdomen and back in the middle of the month, and both feet at the end of the month; cats biting mice follow a similar pattern.)
