Treats all kinds of carbuncles and sores, brain carbuncle (Naoju), and back carbuncle (Fabei). (Yang Chizhou transmitted: This prescription was obtained from an extraordinary person. Wang He used this medicine and saved hundreds of people before and after; it is extremely efficacious.)
Large Trichosanthes Fruit (Gualou) (10 fruits, aged two to three years, remove all peel, keep the pulp and seeds, approximately half a sheng, grind finely in a mortar like powder) Fresh Walnut (10 fruits, non-oily, remove the skin with hot water, grind finely like powder) Olibanum Resin (Ding Ruxiang) (10 pieces, size of a thumb, grind finely in a large mortar like powder)
Add ten taels of white sand honey to the above ingredients, and together with the previous medicines, simmer slowly in a silver or earthenware vessel for three double-hours (6 hours), until the consistency resembles maltose syrup. The quantity prepared should follow this standard.
Take two spoonfuls each time, mixed with half a cup of unadulterated wine, at any time. For severe cases, no more than two or three doses are needed; the effect is miraculous. It treats carbuncles and sores, back carbuncle, when one first feels the toxic qi attacking, causing redness, swelling, and pain. (Transmitted by Jin Hanlin in Xingjin.)
Rhinoceros Horn (Xijiao) (sliced, 1 liang) Scrophularia Root (Xuanshen) (1 liang) Cimicifuga Rhizome (Chuan Shengma) (1 liang) Astragalus Root (Huangqi) (1 liang) Red Peony Root (Chishaoyao) (1 liang) Ophiopogon Tuber (Mendong) (1 liang, heart removed) Licorice Root (Gancao) (1 liang) Angelica Sinensis Root (Danggui) (1 liang) Rheum Palmatum Root (Dahuang) (2 liang, slightly stir-fried)
Grind the above into coarse powder. Take three qian each time, with one cup of water, decoct until reduced to eight-tenths, strain, and take at any time.

First, use a wax thread to measure from the tip of the left middle finger to the transverse crease under the palm. If there are three or two creases, choose the longer and clearer one as the standard. Then, using the measured wax thread, find the midpoint of the coccyx (Weili bone), and measure backwards along the spine to the spinous process (Jichui bone). Mark this point with ink. Next, use the wax thread to measure the middle segment of the middle finger, defining this length as "one cun". Since there are many transverse creases at both ends of the middle finger's middle segment, select the side crease that is long and clear as the standard. Place this measured wax thread horizontally on the ink mark, measuring one cun to each side, and mark these points with cinnabar. These are the correct moxibustion acupoints. The previously marked ink point was only for finding the center, not the moxibustion point itself. Observe the location of the back carbuncle: if it appears on the left, moxa the right; if on the right, moxa the left. For severe cases, moxa both sides, stopping at thirty moxa cones (zhuang). Women should use the right middle finger for measurement; the moxibustion method is the same as for men. For women's breast carbuncle (Naiyong), and similar conditions such as back, rib, brain, or leg carbuncles, moxibustion can be applied regardless of gender. Guo stated that since mastering this method, he has saved countless people. A relative surnamed Chen suffered from this disease. His wife and children sought help urgently, but Chen, suffering greatly, did not believe in it. Reluctantly, he underwent moxibustion. After only ten zhuang, the redness and swelling gradually subsided, and he willingly accepted further treatment. After another twenty zhuang, he felt the heat and toxic qi draining downwards from the swollen area, spreading out from the coccyx as if pushed by hand. Chen remains healthy to this day. He also mentioned a farm woman who suddenly experienced itching and pain in her back, walking with a stooped posture. Upon inquiry, she was treated with this method and healed immediately. There were many such cases, which cannot be fully recorded.
