In the spring, on Jia and Yi days, contracting wind pathogen is termed Liver Wind (Gan Feng); in summer, on Bing and Ding days, contracting wind pathogen is termed Heart Wind (Xin Feng); in late summer, on Wu and Ji days, contracting evil pathogen is termed Spleen Wind (Pi Feng); in autumn, on Geng and Xin days, contracting evil pathogen is termed Lung Wind (Fei Feng); in winter, on Ren and Gui days, contracting evil pathogen is termed Kidney Wind (Shen Feng).
The human body communicates with the Qi transformation of heaven and earth; the Five Zang organs correspond to the climatic conditions of the five seasons. Wind belongs to heavenly Qi; therefore, the Five Elements of Heavenly Stems correspond to the Five Zang organs.
When wind pathogen invades the Shu points (Back-Shu acupoints) of the Five Zang and Six Fu organs, it becomes Wind of the Zang and Fu organs. Entering their respective gates, the affected area is named Pi Feng (Hemiplegic Wind or Asymmetric Wind).
The Five Zang and Six Fu organs all have Shu points located on the back, which serve as the gates of the Zang and Fu organs. When wind pathogen enters through these Shu points, it enters via one gate, and the evil pathogen only penetrates asymmetrically into one Zang or one Fu organ; hence it is named Pi Feng.
Wind Qi follows the Fengfu (DU-16) acupoint upwards, becoming Brain Wind (Nao Feng); when wind pathogen enters the connections of the head, it becomes Eye Wind (Mu Feng), manifesting as coldness in the eyes; contracting wind after drinking alcohol becomes Leaking Wind (Lou Feng); contracting wind while sweating after sexual intercourse becomes Internal Wind (Nei Feng); contracting wind immediately after washing hair becomes Head Wind (Shou Feng); long-standing wind entering inward becomes Intestinal Wind (Chang Feng) accompanied by undigested stool diarrhea (Sun Xie); wind pathogen remaining at the exterior interstices (Cou Li) becomes Leakage Wind (Xie Feng). Therefore, wind is the chief of a hundred diseases. Regarding its transformations, it may become other diseases, without a fixed pattern, yet the cause of disease always stems from wind Qi.
The Fengfu (DU-16) acupoint of the Du Meridian connects upward to the brain and also communicates with the Taiyang Meridian. The Taiyang Meridian originates from the inner canthus of the eye. Thus, when wind pathogen enters the brain via Fengfu, it causes headache and occipital pain; when it reaches the eye via the Taiyang Meridian, it results in coldness of the eyes. Individuals who drink alcohol often sweat and have loose interstices, allowing wind pathogen to easily enter, hence named Leaking Wind. During sexual intercourse, sweating occurs, and wind pathogen takes advantage of the deficiency to enter internally, hence named Internal Wind. Immediately after washing hair, Yang Qi is dispersed; since the head is the convergence of all Yang meridians, wind pathogen attacks the head. Long-standing wind entering the Fu organs results in Intestinal Wind with undigested stool diarrhea, where food fails to digest and is excreted downward, due to the dispersing and draining nature of wind. All evil pathogens harming humans must do so through wind; thus, wind is the chief of a hundred diseases. Its transformations lead to other diseases without a fixed location, yet the etiology invariably stems from wind Qi.
