Jingfeng (Pediatric Convulsion) is divided into acute and chronic types. Acute Jingfeng is characterized by sudden convulsions and spasms, high fever, red face and lips, locked jaw, phlegm misting the heart orifices, accompanied by obstruction of both urination and defecation; it is suitable to moxa on Shenzhu (GV12) and Quchi (LI11).
Chronic Jingfeng presents with slow convulsions, a warm body, pale yellow complexion, or eyes half-open during sleep, accompanied by greenish stool; it is suitable to moxa on Wangu (SI4) and Chize (LU5). If symptoms such as closed eyes, head shaking, sweating on the forehead, lethargy, cyanotic face, cold limbs, and frequent vomiting of clear fluid occur, this is Manpi Feng (Slow Spleen Wind), which is incurable.
Shenzhu (see Cough section).
Quchi (see Hemiplegia section).
Wangu (located in the depression below the prominent bone at the anterior aspect of the lateral wrist, corresponding to the area directly above the little finger).
Chize (see Stroke section).
Ganlao (Pediatric Malnutrition Syndrome) in children manifests as sallow complexion, emaciation, distended abdomen with visible subcutaneous veins, turbid urine resembling rice wash water, and tidal fever in the afternoon. These are caused by unregulated consumption of rich and sweet foods, leading to stagnation in the Middle Jiao (Spleen and Stomach), delayed transportation and transformation, internal injury to the intestines and stomach, resulting in accumulated heat; excessive heat generates Gan disease. It is suitable to moxa on Xiawan (CV10) and Weishu (BL21), after which recovery will naturally occur.
Xiawan, Weishu (both see Distension section).
For the above seventy conditions, applying moxibustion according to the acupoints will ensure no errors. In cases of falls and blows, blood stasis pain, wandering phlegm nodules, or unknown swelling and toxicity, apply moxibustion directly on the affected area: for painful areas, moxa until the pain ceases; for non-painful areas, moxa until pain arises, then healing occurs.
Ai Rong (Mugwort Floss) (3 liang), Liu Huang (Sulfur), She Xiang (Musk), Ru Xiang (Frankincense), Mo Yao (Myrrh), Ding Xiang (Clove), Song Xiang (Pine Rosin), Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig), Duzhong (Eucommia Bark), Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus), Zao Jiao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fruit), Xi Xin (Asarum), Xiong (Ligusticum chuanxiong / Chuanxiong Rhizome), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Xiong Huang (Realgar), Pao Jia (Processed Pangolin Scales) (each 1 qian).
Weigh each of the above herbs, grind into powder, and mix thoroughly with Ai Rong. Take one sheet of cotton paper sandwiching the floss, approximately 5 cun long and 1 chi square. Spread the floss and medicine mixture onto the paper, roll tightly with force to the thickness of a thumb, forming one strip. If there is remaining floss and medicine, make more strips. Wrap externally with three to four layers of paper, brush the outer layer three times with egg white, dry in shade, and store to prevent leakage of air.
First, when using needle therapy, examine the syndrome first, select the appropriate acupoint, mark it with ink, cover the acupoint with seven layers of red cloth, and wait for the needle.
Second, heat the needle thoroughly over a lamp or candle flame, place it accurately on the red cloth over the acupoint. If it feels excessively hot, lift the needle slightly, wait for the heat to stabilize, then proceed. Count in sevens: minimum one seven (7 applications), maximum seven sevens (49 applications) is acceptable.
Third, used medicinal needles should be stored in an extremely dry bamboo tube for future use.
