It is thus known that Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) has a sweet flavor and is extremely hot in nature. Both Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) and Wutou (Aconitum Carmichaelii Debx. Lateral Root), can restore yang and rescue from collapse while dispelling cold, eliminate wind-dampness bi-syndrome and strengthen the middle jiao.
Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root): Those that are round, flat, regular, and weigh more than one tael are superior. It primarily treats cold pain in the heart and abdomen, attacks cough with counterflow qi, breaks up mass formations, induces abortion, and stops dysentery. It eliminates wind-cold-damp bi-syndrome and strengthens sexual function. Wutou (Aconitum Carmichaelii Debx. Lateral Root): It is of the same species as Fuzi, with the original mother root being Wutou. It breaks up accumulations, removes cold-dampness, treats stroke due to evil wind, induces abortion, attacks abdominal pain, and resolves accumulated fluids. Tianxiong (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata): Similar in shape to Fuzi but wider and longer by about three to four cun, with roots/hairs, its nature is fierce just like Wutou and Fuzi. It drives out bi-syndrome, eliminates wind, and assists yang. Fuzi and Wutou/Tianxiong both have acrid, sweet, and extremely hot flavors, and are toxic.
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) stops vomiting and removes phlegm; because it is toxic, it must be processed with Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens). Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) unblocks the intestines and purges heat; due to its rapid and drastic action, it is nicknamed "General".
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma): Flavor is acrid and neutral. Raw use is slightly cold, cooked use is warm, and all forms are toxic. It grows around the Summer Solstice in May, hence the name Banxia. It strengthens the spleen, stops vomiting, and removes phlegm-fluids. Cooked Banxia induces diarrhea, while raw Banxia induces vomiting. When decocted together with Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), its toxicity is restrained. Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma): Flavor is bitter and cold, non-toxic. Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) acts as its guiding herb, and it fears nothing. It promotes qi circulation, dissipates abscesses, clears clustered heat, unblocks blood stasis, sweeps away dry feces, pushes out the old to bring forth the new, and its nature is extremely rapid.

Heshouwu (Polygoni Multiflori Radix): Flavor is bitter, astringent, and slightly warm, non-toxic. In ancient times, an old man surnamed He saw vines intertwining at night, dug up the root, and ate it. His white hair turned black, hence the name. Gusuibu (Drynariae Rhizoma): Flavor is bitter and warm, non-toxic. Also known as Husunjiang. Its roots grow on trees, can repair broken bones, hence the name.
Tinglizi (Lepidii Semen) drains the lungs, resolves phlegm, directs qi downward, and removes floating edema. Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma) opens meridians, disperses swellings, soothes the throat, and improves vision.
Tinglizi (Lepidii Semen): Flavor is acrid, bitter, and cold, non-toxic. Grows everywhere by roadsides. There are sweet and bitter varieties. Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma): Flavor is bitter, neutral, and slightly warm, non-toxic. Also known as Wushan. Commonly called Zhangxianzhang.
Changshan (Dichroae Radix) induces vomiting of saliva/phlegm and arrests malaria. Langdang (Hyoscyami Semen) stops spasms and blocks wind.
Changshan (Dichroae Radix): Flavor is bitter and acrid, toxic. Those shaped like chicken bones are superior. The sprout is named Shuqi.
Langdangzi (Hyoscyami Semen): Grows everywhere, flavor is bitter and acrid, toxic. Also known as Tianxianzi. Although toxic, it is detoxified when combined with Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) and Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma).
Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus) clears heart heat, breaks goiters/nodules, and can regulate menstruation. Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) drains lung abscesses, clears sore throat, stops cough, and relaxes the chest.

Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix): Flavor is acrid, bitter, and slightly cold, slightly toxic. Another variety is named Ku Jiegeng, with identical medicinal properties.
Haijinsha (Lygodii Spora) is harvested at noon to attack typhoid fevers and heat diseases. Gujingcao (Cnidii Capitulum) is gathered from fields to break nebulae obscuring vision.
Haijinsha (Lygodii Spora): Commonly known as Zhuyuansui. Grows everywhere. The harvesting method involves spreading paper, heating it in the sun, and striking the plant with a branch; the spores naturally fall onto the paper, which are then collected. It exclusively promotes urination. Best when combined with Pengsha (Borax), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), and Yayanxiao (Natrii Sulfas). Gujingcao (Cnidii Capitulum): Also known as Chuchui Cao or Daixing Cao. Grows in fields, flavor is acrid and warm, non-toxic. Treats throat obstruction and stops toothache.
Caoheche (Paris Polyphylla Smith var. Chinensis) is also known as Xiuxiu, the supreme remedy for carbuncles and sores. Shanglu (Phytolaccae Radix) root is named Zhangliu, the master for reducing swelling.

Lilu (Veratri Radix): Flavor is acrid, bitter, and cold, toxic. Commonly known as Shanji. Incompatible with Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) and Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix). Can induce vomiting of wind-phlegm. Not used in decoctions. Primarily treats scabies, sores, and parasitic infections. Guanzhong (Cyathulae Radix): Flavor is bitter and slightly cold, toxic. Treats metal wounds, breaks mass formations, and stops epistaxis.
Caohao (Artemisiae Annuae Herba), sometimes written as Qinghao, extinguishes bone-steaming consumptive fever. Xuanfuhua (Inulae Flos), also known as Jinfei, blunts the sharpness of phlegm and cough.
Caohao (Artemisiae Annuae Herba): Flavor is bitter and cold, non-toxic. Grows everywhere. Roots, stems, leaves, and seeds are all used medicinally, but separately. Use seeds instead of leaves, roots instead of stems. Using all four together causes harm rather than benefit. Soaking in children's urine is particularly beneficial. Can also be decocted to wash sores, removing scabies and lice. Xuanfuhua (Inulae Flos): Flavor is salty, sweet, and warm, slightly cold, slightly toxic. Unblocks bladder water, expels wind-dampness, benefits phlegm, and stops vomiting.
Bimazi (Ricini Semen) excels at inducing labor; paste applied to soles. Weilingxian (Clematidis Radix et Rhizoma) dissolves fishbones; decoction poured into throat.
