From the moment of birth until conditions such as fetal toxin (toxin retained from the fetus), erysipelas-like rashes, and carbuncle toxins are resolved, all related content is compiled in this section for easy reference and treatment consultation.
When a newborn first leaves the birth canal, the entire body lacks skin. There are two types: One type results from parents having accumulated syphilis (referred to as "Yangmei" toxic heat), which is transmitted to the infant, causing the lack of skin. Applying early rice flour or Longtan Earth (Fulonggan) is effective. The other type occurs when a birth takes place on a boat; although the elements of Metal, Wood, Water, and Fire are present, Earth is lacking. Simply placing the infant to sleep on the earth on the shore allows the infant to absorb the Qi of the Earth, and the skin will naturally grow. (This entry was added later.)
Shen Douyuan stated: If a mother consumes five pungent spices (Wuxin, referring to five strong-smelling vegetables like garlic, chives, etc.) while pregnant, or if the parents have previously suffered from syphilis, the child may be born without skin over the whole body, resembling peeled meat, or without skin on the head and half of the body. This condition is named "Skin Sore" (Pichuang). It is suitable to apply Yufen San (Jade Powder Powder). (The composition of Yufen San is: 1 liang of Huashi [Talcum] from Guifu processed by water flotation, 3 qian of Gancao [Licorice Root], and 2 fen of Bingpian [Borneol], ground into fine powder and dusted.) Do not use detoxifying medicines. (From *Qixuan*)
For cases where the newborn has no skin over the entire body, revealing red flesh, (from *Jinnang*) quickly dry-dust with white early rice flour. Stop only when new skin has formed.
Another prescription (by Dou Hanqing): Grind Fulonggan (Dragon's House Liver / Settled Clay) into powder, mix with egg white, and apply.
Another prescription: Grind Tuqian Ni (Mud from the bottom of a clay pot) finely and apply.
For cases where the newborn's body resembles fish blisters, which break and leak fluid. (From *Jinnang*)
Grind Miduoseng (Litharge) finely and dust dry; simultaneously administer Suhexiang Wan (Styrax Pill).
If a child is born unable to cry, it is called "Mengsheng" (Dream Birth). Most people do not know how to rescue them, which is truly pitiable. Do not cut the umbilical cord immediately. Instead, warm it with fire so that warm Qi enters the infant's abdomen. Then wash the umbilical cord with hot water. Take one cat, wrap its head and feet in a green cloth bag, and have a dexterous woman hold the cat. Bite through the cat's ear forcefully near the infant's ear. The cat will let out a loud cry, and the infant will awaken and survive. If the birth was difficult or breech, or if the infant caught wind-cold, or if lifted too late leading to impending death and inability to cry, blowing the parents' true Qi onto the infant can also revive it. Alternatively, tie the umbilical cord tightly, burn it off using an oil-soaked paper twist; this is another crucial method for reviving the dead. Or, strike a hand mirror near the infant's head to create sound, and call out the father's childhood name; the infant will then cry.
Luo Qian'an stated: If an infant suffers from heat-toxin in the maternal womb, resulting in cold Qi and blocked heart Qi, falling silent upon landing, it is named "Yakou" (Mute Mouth). Quickly administering a small amount of Yanshou Dan (Longevity Pill) will cure it. Alternatively, pour a vessel of warm water into the mouth; the infant will cry spontaneously after a short while. Alternatively, gently whip the infant with scallion whites, and they will cry. Alternatively, open both the front and back doors, have people stand at both ends of the street calling the father's childhood name, shouting from the street directly into the delivery room; the infant will then cry.
