Taiyi Dan (prepared by Jiang family of Jingshutang): Applied externally to treat all kinds of unnamed swelling and toxic sores.
Main ingredients include Dinghao Tenghuang (Resina Sophorae Tonkinensis, 50 liang), Chi Xiaodou (Adzuki Bean), Tiannanxing (Rhizoma Arisaematis, each 20 liang), Chuan Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis, 100 liang, stir-fried until slightly yellow), and Dangmenshen (Moschus, 5 liang).
Grind the above herbs into an extremely fine powder. Take Baiji (Rhizoma Bletillae, 20 liang), make it into a paste with water, mix and knead with the medicinal powder to form tablets. When using, grind with vinegar and apply externally; the swelling and toxicity will dissipate spontaneously.
Shengma Gao (Cimicifuga Ointment): Applied to Dingchuang (carbuncle/furuncle), wanchuang (stubborn sores), yongju (abscesses), luoli (scrofula), and tanhe (phlegm nodules). If the lesion has not yet suppurated, it will resolve spontaneously; if already ulcerated, it will promote healing.
Preparation: Take Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 20 liang), soak in Zhen Mayou (Sesame Oil, 5 jin) overnight. Boil until the herbs are charred, strain out the residue, and simmer slowly over low heat until a drop of oil does not disperse when dropped into water. Add Feijing Huangdan (Lead Monoxide, 24 liang, purified by levigation) to form the ointment.
Yiqi Dan (prescription by Hu Xuehai): Treats all types of yongju (abscesses), duikou fabei (nuchal carbuncle), and unnamed severe toxins.
Ingredients include Banmao (Mylabris, remove head, feet, and wings, stir-fry with glutinous rice, 5 qian), Ruxiang (Olibanum, remove oil), Moyao (Myrrha, remove oil, each 3 qian), Xionghuang (Realgar, 2 qian), Xuexie (Dragon's Blood, 1 qian), Shexiang (Moschus, 1.5 qian), Bingpian (Borneol, 0.75 qian), Yuanhusuo (Radix Corydalis), and Yuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix, each 0.5 qian).
Pound and grind all ingredients into an extremely fine powder. Apply according to the size of the sore, adhering with an ointment plaster. It resolves immediately upon initial onset, facilitates suppuration if formed, and promotes healing if ulcerated. Compared with Hongshengdan (Red Sublimate), its efficacy is faster, and unlike Hongshengdan which is unsuitable for duikou fabei, this prescription is most stable.
For sores that fail to heal for a long time: Place Luganshi (Calamina) in a silver jar, quench in water seven times, grind into a fine powder, and apply externally.
Another prescription for non-healing sores:
Quantougu (Crinis Canini Ossis), Maotougu (Crinis Felis Ossis).
Grind into a fine powder and apply externally; the wound will heal promptly.
Application for unnamed toxins: Stir-fry Xiaofen (Starch/Tapioca) until yellow, grind finely. Take a chicken killed without contact with iron utensils, tear it open, extract the heart and liver (do not use intestines), pound into a paste, and apply to the affected area. Efficacy is expected within one shichen (two hours).
Wuhu Dan (Five Tigers Pill):
Ingredients include Xionghuang (Realgar), Changpu (Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii), Aiyejian (Apex of Artemisiae Argyi Folium), Zhusha (Cinnabar, quantity as needed), and Wugong (Centipede, one piece).
Combine at noon on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, grind into a fine powder, and apply externally to the site; the swelling will dissipate immediately.
To reduce toxic swelling: Take Jifezaizi (Soap Nut Seed), bake on Yin-Yang tiles, grind into powder, mix with wine, and take orally. Sweating will lead to resolution of the swelling.
Another prescription: Take root branches of Ulmus pumila growing towards the south, wash clean, add a small amount of salt, mix with sugar, pound into a paste, and apply externally; the swelling will dissipate.
