Shen Douyuan stated: In obese individuals who do not bathe for a long time during summer, sweat soaks the skin, gradually rotting and forming sores that are unbearably painful. This condition is called Hanxi Chuang (Sweat-Sores) (*Qixuan*).
Empirical Formula:
Zhen Gafen (True Mollusk Shell Powder) and Huashi (Talcum), in equal parts, ground uniformly and dusted on the affected area.
For those engaged in arduous labor such as boat rowing, cart pushing, fishing, dyeing, jade carving, or woodworking, where hands and feet develop rough, cracked skin that bleeds and causes unbearable pain, this condition is called Chunlie Chuang (Fissure Sores) (*Qixuan*).
Empirical Formula (*Qixuan*):
It is advisable to wash the affected area with a decoction of Digupi (Cortex Lycii) and Bai Fan (Alumen) until the skin becomes soft. Then, melt sheep fat from the twelfth lunar month, add one qian of finely ground Qingfen (Calomel), and apply. The effect is miraculous.
Chen Shigong stated: Zhizhu Chuang (Spider Sores) may result from clothing contacting spider urine or from the crawling of insects and ants. Initially, white blisters with red bases appear, causing itching. They gradually expand into clusters and become painful (*Zhengzong*).
Shen Douyuan stated: These sores occur between the skin layers, resembling Shuike Chuang (Water Vesicle Sores). They are pale red and painful, appearing in clusters of five to seven, and can spread. One may rub Zhumama (Ramie Stem) over the sores to extract fluid, then burn the ramie to ash, grind it into powder, and sprinkle it on the sores for cure (*Qixuan*).
Wang Shengzhi stated: If spider urine contacts the human body, sores resembling millet grains will form, feeling like stings from shellfish, possibly accompanied by aversion to cold and fever. Applying juice ground from Xijiao (Rhinoceros Horn) will cure it. Alternatively, rub the sores with ramie to remove the fluid inside, then apply Jinhuang San (Golden Yellow Powder) (*Lili*).
Empirical Formulas:
1. Wipe the affected area with saliva from a rooster.
2. Another formula: Apply ash made from the beak and claws of a rooster.
3. Another formula: Grind Chansu Pill (Toad Venom Pill) with aged Jingmo (Beijing Ink) and sprinkle on the sores.
4. Another formula: Rub the sores with ramie to break them and release fluid; mix Xionghuang (Realgar) and Kufan (Calcined Alum) in equal parts, grind finely, and apply dry.
Chen Shigong stated: Lacquer has a pungent taste and fire nature; it is a toxic substance. If the pores and interstices of human skin are not dense, one contracts its toxicity. It initially presents with itching; scratching leads to eruptions resembling Uzen (Urticaria) spreading across the limbs. The skin breaks down, oozes fluid, and becomes painful. Severe cases involve alternating chills and fever. Avoid bathing in hot water and maintain dietary restrictions; otherwise, it may transform into stubborn Fengxuan (Wind Tinea) or Laiji (Leprosy-like diseases) (*Zhengzong*).
Shen Douyuan stated: Lacquer Chuang (Lacquer Dermatitis) causes swelling all over the body, feeling like prickly heat or burning, with stabbing pain. The skin becomes dry and cracks. After three to five days, it differs from Fengre Chuang (Wind-Heat Sores) which may only itch or hurt (*Qixuan*).
He also stated: It is suitable to use juice pressed from Jiucai (Chinese Chives), mixed with Sanbai San (Three Whites Powder), applied topically.
Gu Shicheng stated: Individuals with Wood constitution who encounter lacquer develop blisters, itching, and sores, with limb swelling and pain. Severe cases involve alternating chills and fever. Although this disease seems minor, affected individuals may present with rash-like lesions on the head and body, edema, painful and itchy sores, hair loss, mental confusion, and insomnia. Due to delayed treatment, it may evolve into other syndromes or become Fengdian (Wind Mania), which is truly terrifying.
