The eruption of smallpox on the temples is auspicious when sparse and clear; if dense and adherent, it indicates wild fire-toxin. Treat first with Songji Tongsheng San to vent the toxin, followed by Guizong Tang to attack the toxin-heat, which yields good results.
[Note] The temples are near the Taiyang (Greater Yang) channel. Eruption here that is sparse and clear is auspicious. If dense and adherent, it is named "Baobi" (Embracing Temples), indicating excessive and rampant fire-toxin. It is appropriate to first use Songji Tongsheng San to vent its toxin, and subsequently use Guizong Tang to attack its toxin-heat, thereby turning danger into safety.
Songji Tongsheng San (Formula see Mengtou Syndrome Treatment chapter)
Guizong Tang (Formula see Fever Syndrome Treatment chapter)
Smallpox gathering behind the ears is named "Meng ", where latent toxin in the Kidney channel is most worrisome. Use Songji Tongsheng San and Guizong Tang with discretion, and do not delay applying the Yanzhi Paste method.
[Note] Smallpox accumulating on the high bone behind the ear is named "Meng ". This stems from fire-toxin originating from the Kidney channel, and the syndrome is most malignant. Internally take Songji Tongsheng San; externally apply Yanzhi Paste. If the eruption is even denser, pustular, and hot, use Guizong Tang to attack it.
Songji Tongsheng San (Formula see Mengtou Syndrome Treatment chapter)
Yanzhi Paste
Recipe: Decoction of Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma) into a thick liquid, strain off dregs. Rub cotton-based Yanzhi in the decoction to extract red juice, add fine powder of Realgar (Xionghuang), mix evenly, and apply to the affected area.
Guizong Tang (Formula see Fever Syndrome Treatment chapter)
Only the areas surrounding the two eyes are densely erupted, named "Suoyan" (Locking Eyes), indicating toxin injury to the Spleen channel. Externally apply Yanzhi Paste; internally take Qingre Jiedu Tang is appropriate.
[Note] Where the face is generally sparse but only the areas around the eyes are dense, it is named "Suoyan". This is due to blazing toxin-heat injuring the Spleen channel. Externally, apply Yanzhi Paste; internally, take Qingre Jiedu Tang.

Qingre Jiedu Tang (Formula see Jian Dian Syndrome Treatment chapter)
Smallpox like silkworm seeds surrounds the nose tip, with toxin gathering in the Spleen and Lungs, a critical syndrome difficult to prolong. Externally apply Yanzhi paste to the nose; internally take Huanglian Jiedu Decoction.
[Note] Where the face is generally sparse but only the left and right sides of the nasal bridge are dense like silkworm seeds, it is named "Babi" (Embracing Nose). This is toxin gathering in the Spleen and Lungs, a critically dangerous syndrome. First apply Yanzhi paste to the nose, then treat with Huanglian Jiedu Tang.
