This is Xiaochaihu Decoction (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) with added Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Baishao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix), and Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), used to treat fever manifesting in the skin, tidal fever, alternating chills and fever, bitter taste in the mouth, dry throat, dizziness, chest fullness, vexation, dry retching, thirst with vexation, and cough. This is Xiaochaihu Decoction (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) with Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) removed, and added Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Baishao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Bai Fuling (Poria), and Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), used to treat fever accompanied by spontaneous diarrhea, or delirium and abdominal fullness. If Sharen (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) is added, it becomes a Compound Formula.
This involves combining this formula with Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) to treat fever and diarrhea with interior deficiency.
This involves combining this formula with Pingwei San (Powder to Maintain the Normal State) to treat malaria.
This is Chai Ping Tang (Bupleurum and Pingwei Decoction) with Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) removed, and added Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Fuling (Poria), and Huoxiang (Agastaches Herba). For malaria patients with weak constitution, add Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma); for indigestion, add Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata), Maiya (Hordei Fructus Germinatus), and Shanzha (Crataegi Fructus).
Also known as Tiaojing Tang (Regulating Menses Decoction), this is the combination of this formula with Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction), used to treat afternoon fever due to Blood deficiency.

To treat Taiyang disease (Disease of the Taiyang Channel) presenting with Guizhi Syndrome (Cinnamon Twig Syndrome), where the physician erroneously applied purgation, resulting in persistent diarrhea, wheezing, and sweating:
Ge Gen (Kudzu Root, half jin, sweet and neutral) Gan Cao (Licorice Root, two liang, prepared/sweet and neutral) Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root, three liang, bitter and cold) Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome, three liang, bitter and cold)
Take these four ingredients, add eight sheng of water, first decoct Ge Kan until the volume reduces by two sheng, then add the remaining herbs. Decoct to obtain two sheng of liquid, remove the dregs, and divide into two warm doses.
According to Cheng Wuji, citing the *Neijing* (Inner Canon): "Sweet flavors disperse and belong to Yang." When the exterior pathogen has not been resolved, use the sweetness of Ge Gen and Gan Cao to disperse; when the interior Qi is weak, use the bitterness of Huang Qin and Huang Lian to consolidate and secure the Yin.
Use Ge Gen (Fifteen liang), Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Baishao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), and Gan Cao (Licorice Root, three liang each), grind into powder. Take three qian per dose, decoct with water, remove dregs, and take hot. Administer three times daily. Used to treat pediatric Shanghan (Cold Damage), Zhen Bing (Eruptive Diseases), Shi Qi (Seasonal Epidemic Qi), and Wen Yi (Warm Epidemics) presenting with headache, fever, and limb pain, as well as during the suspected phase before or after the eruption of sores/rashes. Haizang stated that if the condition persists, use Lian Xu Cong Bai Tang (Decoction of Scallion White with Roots); if still ineffective, use Ge Gen Sheng Ma Tang. This is done to intercept the pathogen from transferring from the Taiyang channel to the Yangming channel. However, one must realize that Sheng Ma is not a herb for the Taiyang channel. If Ge Gen Sheng Ma Tang is administered immediately upon the onset of Taiyang symptoms, it not only neglects the treatment of the Taiyang channel but also draws the Taiyang pathogenic factor inward into the Yang aspect. The resulting complications are incalculable.
