Treats Taiyang disease (disease of the Taiyang channel) where the pathogen is in the exterior and should be resolved by sweating, but cold water was mistakenly sprayed on the body. This suppresses the heat, causing more pronounced formation of gooseflesh on the skin. When the patient desires to drink water:
Wen Ge (Clam Shell, *Concha Meretricis*, 5 liang).
Grind the above single herb into a powder. Mix one fangcun bi (a square-inch measure) with boiling water for administration.
Use Wen Ge (*Concha Meretricis*) and Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum, each 5 liang), Ma Huang (Ephedrae Herba), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger Root), each 3 liang), Xing Ren (Apricot Seed, 50 pieces), and Da Zao (Jujube Fruit, 12 pieces). Boil in 6 sheng of water. Take 1 sheng warm per dose. It treats thirst and excessive drinking desire after vomiting, and also addresses mild wind pathogens, tight pulse, headache, and sweating. Recovery occurs after administration.
Use Wen Ge (*Concha Meretricis*, broken, cleaned, and finely ground, 3 liang), Shan Ci Gu (Fritillaria Bulb, peeled and cleaned, 2 liang), Qian Jin Zi (Croton Seed, shell removed, ground, oil extracted, frost taken, 1 liang), Hong Ya Da Ji (Red-stemmed Euphorbia Root, rhizome removed, cleaned, dried, 1.5 liang), and She Xiang (Musk, 3 qian, separately ground). Except for Qian Jin Zi and She Xiang, grind the first three herbs into fine powder, then mix with the separately ground medicines until uniform. Administer with thick glutinous rice decoction to neutralize toxicity. Used for food poisoning, epidemics, and various wind-induced urticaria.
Treats continuous hematemesis (vomiting blood):
Bai Ye (Cattail Pollen), Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger, each 3 liang), Ai Ye (Mugwort Leaf, 3 bundles).
Boil the above three herbs in 5 sheng of water, add Ma Tong Zhi (Horse Dung Juice, 1 sheng), and simmer together until 1 sheng remains. Divide into two doses and take warm.
This is Bai Ye Tang (Cattail Decoction) minus Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger), plus Huai Di Huang (Rehmannia Root) and Xiao He Ye (Small Lotus Leaf) in equal parts, formed into pills the size of a chicken egg. Take with water decoction to treat hematemesis; adding Xiao Ji (Cirsii Herba) and Mao Gen (Imperata Rhizome), named [specific pill name], treats bleeding more rapidly.
This is Bai Ye Tang (Cattail Decoction) plus Pu Huang (Typha Pollen, 3 he), Gan Di Huang (Prepared Rehmannia Root), Sang Er (Mulberry Auricularia), Gan Cao (Licorice Root), Mang Xiao (Mirabilite), Fu Ling (Poria), Ren Shen (Ginseng Root), E Jiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin, each 2 liang), Yu Yu Liang (Haematitum, Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome, each 1 liang), Chi Shi Zhi (Red Halloysite, 1.25 liang). Cut the herbs, boil in 1 dou of water until 4 sheng remain. Divide into five doses. Treats bloody dysentery.
This is Bai Ye Tang (Cattail Decoction) minus Ai Ye (Mugwort Leaf), plus Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Gan Cao (Licorice Root), Zhi Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root, honey-fried, each 0.5 liang), Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis Radix), Chao Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome, fried), Gan Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmannia Root, each 0.75 qian), Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome, fried).
