[Formula of Gardenia Decoction]
Use Gardeniae Fructus (Zhizi), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin) (each 3 liang), and Sojae Preparata Semen (Chidou) (1 sheng). Wrap Scallion White (Congbai) (cut, 1 sheng), Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao) (4 liang, crushed, wrapped in silk), and Zingiberis Rhizoma (Ganjiang) (4 liang, cut) in silk. Add seven sheng of water, decoct to obtain two sheng and six he of liquid, strain the dregs, and divide into three warm doses. After walking for approximately eight to nine li, if symptoms persist, administer another dose. Avoid alcohol, wheat products, and raw/cold foods. Indicated for epidemic febrile diseases presenting with headache and high fever on the first or second day.
[Second Formula]
Use Sojae Preparata Semen (Chidou) (1 sheng), Scallion White (Congbai) (cut, 1 sheng), and Child’s Urine (Tongbian) (3 sheng). First decoct Chidou and Congbai until their flavors meld, then add Tongbian. Decoct to obtain one sheng of liquid, clarify, and administer. If sweating or urination occurs and the condition improves, stop medication; otherwise, administer another dose. Frequent use is effective. Treats epidemic heat pathogens causing headache, soreness and pain in bones and muscles, and high fever. If the disease is in the meridians on the first day, skin on the second day, and muscle layer on the third day, without successful purgation, this formula is suitable.
[Third Formula]
Use Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang) (2 liang, remove joints), Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu) (3 liang), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin) (3 liang), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) (2 liang, honey-fried), Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao) (5 liang, crushed, wrapped in silk), Puerariae Radix (Gegen) (3 liang, cut), and Root Bark of White Mulberry (Baigenpi) (cut, 1 sheng; do not retain the green part as it is hot in nature, while the white part is cold; alternatively, use Morus Cortex Sangbaipi), and Fermented Sojae Semen (Douchi) (7 he, wrapped in silk, boiled three times then strained). Soak these ingredients in nine sheng of water overnight. On the next morning, first boil Mahuang until bubbling, skim off the foam, then add the remaining herbs. Decoct to obtain one sheng and seven he of liquid, divide into three doses. Administer each dose after an interval equivalent to the time taken for three meals. Cover the patient to induce sweating. For patients with aversion to cold, add Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guixin). Avoid Amaranthus (Xiancai), raw Scallion (Cong), raw vegetables, wild pork, and Asparagus (Lusun).
[Fourth Formula]
Puerariae Radix (Gegen) (cut, 5 he), Scallion White (Congbai) (cut, 1 sheng), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang) (cut, 1 he), Sojae Preparata Semen (Chidou) (1 sheng), and Oryza Sativa (Jingmi) (2 he, wrapped in cloth, ground). Decoct the first four ingredients with five sheng of water to obtain three sheng and half a he of liquid. Strain the dregs, add the ground Jingmi, and cook until the rice is soft. Take hot while all at once. Slightly cover to induce mild sweating. No specific dietary restrictions.
[Fifth Formula]
Use Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma) (6 fen), Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu) (8 fen), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Shaoyao) (6 fen), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) (5 fen), Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao) (12 fen, crushed), Ophiopogonis Radix (Maimendong) (remove heart), Scallion White (Congbai) (4 fen), Fermented Sojae Semen (Xiangchi) (6 fen), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang) (6 fen, wrapped in cloth), and Phyllostachidis Folium (Zhuye) (washed and cut, 8 sheng). Decoct with nine sheng of water to obtain two sheng and half a he of liquid. Strain through cloth, divide into three warm doses. Administer each dose after an interval equivalent to walking for six to seven li. If no vomiting or diarrhea occurs and the condition resolves, discontinue. Avoid Algae (Haizao), Brassica rapa Pekinensis (Songcai), hot noodles, and greasy foods.
