Dong the Great Immortal said: "The aforementioned prescriptions each possess their own wonders, which I cannot fully articulate. I also select one discussion: for instance, Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) can treat hematemesis (vomiting blood) and also treat lower gastrointestinal bleeding; the method of treating them together with Liujunzi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction), is it not worth careful examination?"
He the Great Immortal said: "The secret records contain more than just these three prescriptions; let us select some more. Guipi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction) can treat liver injury caused by depression and anger, and can also treat insomnia due to heart deficiency; Xiaochaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) can treat... Lu Zu selected a discussion: "If a person sits for a long time, blood stagnation occurs; if they lie down for a long time, muscles atrophy and bones shrink. One must make them walk along the path, and then follow up with medicinal treatment."
Prescription composition: Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) 1 liang, Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) 3 qian, Huangqi (Astragali Membranacei Radix) 1 liang, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 1 qian, Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) 5 fen, Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) 5 fen, Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum) 1 qian. Decoct in water and take orally.
Guolao the Great Immortal said: "This prescription is exquisitely wonderful."
Hua Zhenren selected a discussion: "If a person is overworked, one should advise them to rest and relax, and then treat with medicine. Excessive labor causes the pulse to be extremely floating and large without order, feeling powerless upon pressure. If not... [text missing] ...Shanzhuyu (Corni Fructus)... Guolao the Great Immortal said: "There are rules for the use of prescriptions."
Maori Xingjun said: "With appropriate balance of work and rest, I select two prescriptions: one treats Qi fatigue, and one treats Blood fatigue."
Prescription for Qi Fatigue: Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) 3 liang, Huangqi (Astragali Membranacei Radix) 3 liang, Fuling (Poria) 4 liang, Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) 8 liang, Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) 3 liang, Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) 1 liang, Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparatum cum Melle) 8 qian.
When the pulse on the left hand is larger than that on the right hand, it indicates Blood injury. Another separate prescription is established: Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata) 8 liang, Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) 8 liang, Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) 4 liang, Shanzhuyu (Corni Fructus) 4 liang, Ju... Li Tieguai the Great Immortal selected a discussion: "Regarding patients suffering from Jue syndrome (cold extremities/syncope), most present with hyperextension of both hands and inversion/twisting of both feet. It is essential to know that one must stand while taking the medication. This disease originates as a Heat syndrome; the deeper the Heat, the deeper the Jue. If allowed to lie down while taking medicine, when the decoction reaches the stomach, it encounters boiling Fire Qi, causing impact and preventing absorption, leading to vomiting frequently. I now establish a method: standing while taking medicine eliminates the fear of vomiting entirely."
Prescription composition: Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) 3... [text missing] ...Fang... Shi... There are also symptoms of lower back pain, which should also be treated by standing and drinking. The waist belongs to the Kidney; Kidney deficiency leads to lower back pain, and prolonged pain further weakens the Kidney Palace. Even with Kidney-tonifying medicines... Decoct in wine and take orally. Although this is clever, only by standing and drinking can it directly enter the Kidney Palace; this is the wonder of standing and drinking.
Lu Zu said: "Cases suitable for standing and drinking are few; only these two cases remain, no further selection is needed."
