The Du Meridian (Governing Vessel) runs along the midline of the back and has twenty-eight acupoints. It begins at Changqiang (Long Strong), Yaoshu (Lumbar Cavity), Yangguan (Yang Gate), enters Mingmen (Life Gate), Xianshu (Hanging Pivot), Jizhong (Spine Center), Zhongshu (Central Pivot), Jinsuo (Tendon Contraction), Zhiyang (Arriving at Yang), returns to Lingtai (Spirit Platform), Shendao (Divine Path), Shenzhu (Body Pillar), Taodao (Way of Tao), passes through Dazhui (Great Vertebra), Yamen (Silent Gate), connects to Fengfu (Wind Palace), Naohu (Brain House), then to Qiangjian (Strong Intercalary), Houding (Posterior Crown), arranges Baihui (Hundred Meetings), Qianding (Anterior Crown), Xinhui (Fontanel Meeting), Shangxing (Upper Star), Shenting (Spirit Courtyard), Suliao (Plain Liao), opposite Shuigou (Water Trench), Duanduan (Cusp End) is located on the upper lip, Yinjiao (Gum Intersection) is located inside the upper gum line.
Changqiang (GV1) (also known as Qi Zhiyin, also known as Ju Gu; *Ling Shu* refers to it as Qionggu, also named Guyi) is located at the end of the spine. It is the starting point of the collateral branch of the Du Meridian. From Changqiang, it winds around the posterior outside of the anus, merges with the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian, and circulates in the region of the tailbone (Weilu). To locate the point, the patient should lie prone on the ground. Apply moxibustion: 3 moxa cones (zhuang).
Yaoshu (GV2): Ascending from Changqiang through the spine, it is located below the 21st thoracic vertebra. Apply moxibustion: 5 moxa cones.
Yangguan (GV3): Located below the 16th thoracic vertebra. Apply moxibustion: 3 moxa cones.
Mingmen (GV4) (also known as Shulei): Located below the 14th thoracic vertebra. Apply moxibustion: 3 moxa cones.
Xianshu (GV5): Located below the 13th thoracic vertebra. Apply moxibustion: 3 moxa cones.
