For cases of unexplained pain throughout the whole body, it is appropriate to take Paifeng Tang (Wind-Expelling Decoction). When taking medicines for traumatic injuries, one must avoid cold and raw foods, beef, mutton, and all "fa-wu" (stimulating/triggering foods); the medicine must be taken while hot, as free blood circulation facilitates bone healing. For swelling and pain at the site of a fall or blow, this indicates blood stasis; it is appropriate to wash the area with a decoction of hot medicinal herbs and apply Heilong San (Black Dragon Powder) externally. If there are splintered bones under the skin, Heilong San should be used, and the fragments will naturally discharge over time. For severe injuries, Shunqi San (Qi-Soothing Powder) is appropriate; one should not hastily take bone-setting elixirs or similar preparations. Regardless of the severity of an injury, herbal remedies are contraindicated; violating this may prevent proper healing after foreign bodies are removed. In cases of constipation following trauma, Jiegu Dan (Bone-Setting Pill) is contraindicated because fried herbs are hot and pungent, and mixing them with wine further aggravates fire and pathology. Instead, Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) should be taken first until the condition stabilizes. If constipation persists, Chengqi Tang (Descending Qi Decoction) with Mutong (Akebia Caulis) and Puxiao (Natrii Sulfas) should be used until bowel movement is restored, before administering Jiegu Dan. For comminuted fractures of the skull, herbal remedies are forbidden; Zhixue San (Hemostatic Powder) should be applied topically, and upper-body powdered medicine taken internally. Additionally, fresh crab, Hugu (Tiger Bone, *Panthera tigris*), 4 liang, and Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Rhizome), 5 qian, should be decocted in good wine and taken orally. The injured area must strictly avoid being wrapped in cloth or silk, as dried blood may adhere, making dressing changes difficult later; wrapping well with oil-paper from an umbrella is very safe and secure. In situations where no medicine is available for an acute fracture, glutinous rice mixed with yeast, ginger, and scallions can be temporarily pounded into a paste, heated with an ironing tool, and applied as a compress. Internally, aged wine should be consumed to prevent blood coagulation, after which proper medication can be sought. For bone setting, after realignment, Wulong San (Black Apsaras Powder) should be applied around the periphery, Taohua San (Peach Blossom Powder) should fill the hematoma wound, and then the area should be wrapped with umbrella paper and bound securely.
(For cases where bones are broken and skin is lacerated, wash with this decoction first, then administer anesthesia.) Chishao (Red Peony Root, *Paeoniae Radix Rubra*, 5 qian), Yanhusuo (Corydalis Rhizome, *Corydzidis Rhizoma*, 5 qian), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis, *Angelicae Sinensis Radix*, 3 qian), Cangzhu (Atractylodes Rhizome, *Atractylodis Rhizoma*, 1 liang), Jingjie (Schizonepeta Spike, *Schizonepetae Spica*, 4 liang), plus Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root, *Saposhnikoviae Radix*), Huaizhi (Locust Twig, *Robiniae Ramulus*), Huajiao (Zanthoxylum Fruit, *Zanthoxyli Pericarpium*), Congbai (Scallion White, *Allii Fistulosi Bulbus*), and Aiye (Mugwort Leaf, *Artemisiae Argyi Folium*) sliced together. Take 1 liang per dose, add 5 sheng of water and 2 lotus leaves, decoct until reduced to 8 fen, strain, and use the liquid for washing. For internal anesthesia, administer this preparation first to induce numbness, allowing for surgical incision. If bleeding occurs, stop it with Taohua San, apply external anesthetic powder to ensure the patient feels no pain, proceed to cut to the damaged area, surround the incision with Taohua San, apply a wound-healing plaster externally, and take with light salt water.
