The *Zhulin Nuke* (Bamboo Grove Gynecology) is widely known and appreciated; many have heard of its name but never seen the book. In the Ding-Chou year of the Jiaqing reign (1817), Wang Zhizhong, while serving his father at the Taiwan Circuit Intendancy, spared no expense to purchase an original copy. Upon occasional use in treating diseases, it proved effective as if by divine intervention. He wished to publish it for dissemination but was unable to do so at that time. Several years later, when Wang Zhizhong took office as the Tongzhi (Assistant Prefect) of Wuxue in Hubei, he reviewed this book during his leisure time from official duties and commissioned a printer to publish it for the public. It is hoped that those who study this book will diagnose accurately and treat according to the formulas, without hesitating to copy them directly, without mixing in personal opinions, and without harboring doubts or ambiguities. This way, the painstaking efforts of the author will not be in vain. Furthermore, may women throughout the world attain the realm of benevolence and longevity; what greater joy could there be? Having completed the printing, I narrate the details here. The book retains its original title to preserve its authenticity, reflecting the principle of "transmitting faith with faith." This serves as the preface.
Written by Wang Zhizhengxuan of Jingde at the Wuxue Official Residence in the twelfth month of the seventh year of the Daoguang reign (1827).
Menstruation should occur monthly as a regular pattern. If excessive Yang causes menstruation to advance by one month, arriving suddenly early, the blood color is often red, or purple and thick. The patient’s constitution prefers cold and fears heat, indicating Blood Heat (Xue Re). If the syndrome involves Phlegm-Fire (Tan Huo), it is appropriate to take Jiawei Tiaojing Wan (Modified Regulation Menstruation Pill).

Women are primarily governed by Blood. If care is taken in regulation and nursing, Qi and Blood circulate smoothly, and menstruation arrives on schedule. If Yin deficiency causes menstruation to delay by one month, arriving suddenly late, the blood color is dull, or scanty and stagnant. The patient’s constitution fears cold and prefers warmth, indicating a need to nourish Blood. It is appropriate to take Zhengjing Yangxue Tang (Standard Nourishing Blood Decoction).
