Whenever there are falls and blows, or strain from lifting heavy loads, or anger causing qi rebellion, all can cause blood stasis to accumulate. The symptoms include alternating chills and fever, jaundice, fullness and pain in the chest, hypochondrium, and lower abdomen, with tenderness such that the area cannot be touched. Treatment should be divided according to the upper, middle, and lower regions. For residual blood stasis after hematemesis or epistaxis, which belongs to the upper region, there must be a desire to rinse the mouth with water but no desire to swallow it; use Xijiao Dihuang Tang (Rhino Horn and Rehmannia Decoction). Blood binding in the chest and diaphragm belongs to the middle region, accompanied by dry thirst and delirious speech; use Tao Ren Cheng Qi Tang (Persicae Semen and Rhubarb Decoction). Hardness and fullness of the lower abdomen with black stools belong to the lower region, accompanied by mania and forgetfulness; use Didang Tang (Mustard Seed and Leech Decoction) or Dai Didang Tang (Substitute Mustard Seed and Leech Decoction). Blood stasis in the Sanjiao (Triple Burner) is characterized by restlessness and constipation; use Shengdihuang Tang (Rehmanniae Radix Decoction). In the early stage of blood stasis with chest and abdominal pain, use Xiangke San (Aucklandiae and Aurantii Powder). From a high fall, with evil blood remaining and unbearable pain in the abdomen and hypochondrium, use Fuyuan Huoxue Tang (Revitalize the Origin and Invigorate Blood Decoction). Strain injury causing blood stagnation is treated with Chenxiang Jiangqi San (Aquilariae and Zedoaria Decoction). Blood stasis in the anterior chest is treated with fresh leek juice mixed with infant urine. When blood stasis presents with hallucinations resembling possession, use Danggui Huoxue Tang (Angelicae Sinensis and Blood-Invigorating Decoction). For body chills, fever, and jaundice with a wiry, thin, and deep pulse, Qianjin Fang uses Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Guiwei (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Taoren (Persicae Semen), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), and Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), ground into powder. Take two fangcunbi (square-inch scoops) with wine. Stools like lacquer indicate severe blood stasis and are critical; treatment is only possible if the spirit is clear and the pulse remains unchanged. For dry and bound blood stasis, use Yuzhu San (Jade Candle Powder). Jaundice of the head, face, and body can be treated by rubbing with ginger residue wrapped in silk cloth, which will resolve spontaneously.
