("Wei" [Link Vessel] implies the ability to maintain the meridians within the body; although Qi and Blood are abundant and accumulated, they cannot circulate in a ring-like manner to irrigate and nourish all the meridians.) The *Nan Jing* (Classic of Difficult Issues) states: The Yang Link Vessel (Yangwei Mai) originates from the convergence of all Yang meridians (All Yang meridians converge at the head; Fengchi [GB20] and Fengfu [GV16] are such convergence points. Some claim Jinmen [BL63], but this is incorrect. Fengchi is the meeting point of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian and the Yang Link Vessel; Fengfu is the meeting point of the Du Meridian and the Yang Link Vessel. Jinmen is located one cun below Shenmai [BL62] under the lateral malleolus, belonging to the Xi-Cleft point of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian, and is a collateral branch of the Yang Link Vessel. How can it be called a convergence point?). When diseased, the patient suffers from aversion to cold and fever (Because the Yang Link Vessel governs Wei-Qi [Defensive Qi] which resides on the exterior, thus when the pathogen is on the exterior, aversion to cold and fever occur).
Zhang Jiegu states: The Yang Link Vessel links all Yang meridians. There are twenty-four acupoints where the Yang Link Vessel converges: [Jinmen] (Foot-Taiyang, below the lateral malleolus), [Yangjiao] (Foot-Shaoyang, above the lateral malleolus), [Naoshu] (Hand-Taiyang, posterior to the shoulder), [Tianliao] (Hand-Shaoyang, above the clavicular fossa), [Jianjing] (Foot-Shaoyang, on the shoulder), [Yangbai] (Foot-Shaoyang, above the eyebrow), [Benshen] (Foot-Shaoyang, above the eyebrow), [Zulinqi] (Foot-Shaoyang, above the eyebrow), [Zhengying] (Foot-Shaoyang, above Mucuang), [Naokong] (Foot-Shaoyang, below the occipital bone), [Fengchi] (Foot-Shaoyang, posterior to the temporal region), [Fengfu] (Du Meridian, between the posterior hairline), [Yamen] (Du Meridian, posterior to Fengfu).
The *Nan Jing* states: The Yin Link Vessel (Yinwei Mai) originates from the convergence of all Yin meridians (All Yin meridians converge at the Zhubin acupoint on the foot, located in the muscle gap above the medial malleolus). When diseased, the patient suffers from heart pain (Because the Yin Link Vessel governs Ying-Blood [Nutritive Blood], and the Heart governs Blood vessels, thus disease manifests as heart pain). Zhang Jiegu states: The Yin Link Vessel links all Yin meridians (The *Nan Jing* states: The Yang Link Vessel maintains the Yang, and the Yin Link Vessel maintains the Yin. If Yin and Yang cannot maintain each other, one feels despondent and loses will, with the body feeling loose and unable to control itself. "Rongrong" describes a slow and weak appearance). There are twelve acupoints where the Yin Link Vessel converges: [Zhubin] (Foot-Shaoyin, above the medial malleolus), [Fuai] (Foot-Taiyin, below the breast), [Daheng] (Foot-Taiyin, below Fuai), [Fushe] (Foot-Taiyin, below the lower abdomen), [Qimen] (Foot-Jueyin, below the breast), [Tiantu] (Ren Meridian, below the larynx), [Lianquan] (Ren Meridian, below the root of the tongue).
