The Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian originates at the inner canthus (Jingming, BL1), ascends to the forehead and intersects at the vertex; its branch goes from the vertex to the upper angle of the ear; its main trunk enters the brain from the vertex, emerges again, descends separately to the nape, follows the medial aspect of the scapula, flanks the spine to reach the waist, enters and follows the paraspinal muscles, connects with the Kidney, and belongs to the Bladder; another branch descends from the waist, flanking the spine internally, penetrates the buttocks, and enters the popliteal fossa; yet another branch separates from the medial aspect of the shoulder on both sides, descends through the scapula, flanks the spine internally, passes the hip joint, follows the posterior margin of the thigh downwards, and joins with the previous branch in the popliteal fossa, then descends through the calf, follows behind the lateral malleolus, passes Jinggu (BL64), and reaches the lateral side of the little toe. When this meridian is affected by pathogenic factors, symptoms include headache as if being struck, eyes feeling as if they are falling out, neck feeling as if being pulled, back pain and waist feeling as if broken, inability to flex the thighs, stiffness in the popliteal fossa as if tied in a knot, and pain in the calf as if being torn; this is called "Huai Jue" (Ankle-Jue). This meridian governs diseases related to the sinews, including hemorrhoids, malaria, mania, epilepsy, pain in the vertex, occiput, and neck, yellow eyes, tearing, nasal congestion or epistaxis, pain in the neck, arm, waist, sacrum, and foot, and dysfunction of the little toe. These are all diseases of this meridian. (Bo, pronounced Bo. Lv, pronounced Lv. Tun, pronounced Tun. Guo, pronounced Guo. Jia, pronounced Jia. Shu, pronounced Shu. Shu refers to the calf muscle.)
This text describes the course of the Bladder Meridian, which is the seventh meridian. The large corner of the eye is the inner canthus; the area before the hairline is the forehead; the top of the head is the vertex. The brain is the marrow of the head. The back of the head is the nape; the lower part behind the shoulder is the scapular region; the vertebral column is the spine; the transverse bone above the sacrum is the waist; the muscles flanking the spine are the paraspinal muscles. The buttock is the sacrum. The areas flanking the iliac bones are the hips; behind the hips are the buttocks; the upper part of the gastrocnemius and the posterior bend of the knee is the popliteal fossa; the muscles inside the paraspinal region are the scapular muscles, i.e., the muscles flanking the spine. The outer thigh is the thigh; below the femoral head is the hip pivot; the gastrocnemius is the calf. The Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian originates at Jingming (BL1) in the inner canthus, receiving the intersection from the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian, ascends to the forehead, follows Zanzhu (BL2), passes Shenting (GV24), sequentially passes Qucha (BL6), Wuchu (BL7), Chengguang (BL8), Tongtian (BL9); from Tongtian, it runs obliquely to intersect left and right at Baihui (GV20) on the vertex; its branch goes from the vertex to Baihui and reaches the upper angle of the ear, passing Lvgu (GB8), Fu Bai (GB12), and Xiaoyin (GB11), thereby nourishing the sinews and vessels; its main trunk, via Tongtian, Luoque (BL9), Yuzhen (BL11), enters and connects with the brain, then emerges and descends to the nape, reaching Tianzhu (BL10); again descending from Tianzhu, it passes Dazhui (GV14), Taodao (GV13), then follows the medial aspect of the scapula, flanking the spine on both sides, each 1.5 cun away from the spine, descending sequentially through Dazhu (BL11), Fengmen (BL12), Feishu (BL13), Jueyinshu (BL14), Xinshu (BL15), Geshushu (BL17), Ganshushu (BL18), Danshushu (BL19), Pishushu (BL20), Weishushu (BL21), Sanjiaoshu (BL22), Shenshu (BL23), Dachangshu (BL25), Xiaochangshu (BL27), Pangguangshu (BL28), Zhongshushu (BL29), Neishushu (BL30), and Baihuanshu (BL30), thereby reaching the middle of the waist, entering and following the paraspinal muscles, connecting with the Kidney, and descending to belong to the Bladder; its collateral branch, from the middle of the waist, follows the lumbar hip, descends flanking the spine, sequentially passing Shangliao (BL31), Ciliao (BL32), Zhongliao (BL33), Xialiao (BL34), and Huiyang (BL35), descends through the buttocks to Chengfu (BL36), Yinmen (BL37), Fupi (BL38), Weiyang (BL39), and enters Weizhong (BL40) in the popliteal fossa; another collateral branch consists of the acupoints in the third row flanking the spine, each 3 cun away from the spine, starting from Tianzhu, separating from the medial aspect of the shoulder on both sides, descending through the scapular paraspinal muscles, sequentially passing Fufen (BL17), Pohu (BL42), Gaohuang (BL43), Shentang (BL44), Yixi (BL45), Ge Guan (BL46), Hunmen (BL47), Yanggang (BL48), Yishe (BL49), Weicang (BL50), Huangmen (BL51), Zhishi (BL52), Baomang (BL53), and Zhibian (BL54), descending through the sacrum and buttocks, passing the hip pivot, then following the interior of the hip pivot, between 1.5 cun outside Chengfu, descending to merge with the branch that previously entered the popliteal fossa, descending along Heyang (BL55), penetrating the calf, sequentially passing Chengjin (BL56), Chengshan (BL57), Feiyang (BL58), Fuyang (BL59), emerging behind the lateral malleolus at Kunlun (BL60), Pucan (BL61), Shenmai (BL62), Chongmen (GB15), following Jinggu (BL64), Shugu (BL65), Tonggu (BL66), and reaching Zhiyin (BL67) on the lateral side of the little toe, thereby connecting with the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. Therefore, its alterations manifest as symptoms such as headache caused by pathogenic qi striking the head.
