According to the *Records of Shu*, Guan Yunchang was often struck by stray arrows, which penetrated his left arm. Although the wound healed, every time it rained or the weather turned cloudy, his bones would ache. The physician said, "The arrowhead is toxic and has entered the bone; you must cut open your arm and scrape the bone to remove the toxin for a cure." Guan Yunchang extended his arm for the incision. At that time, he was hosting generals for a banquet, sitting opposite them. Blood flowed profusely from his arm, filling the plates and vessels, yet he continued to slice meat, roast it, drink wine, talk, and laugh as if nothing were wrong. In the late Sui Dynasty, Gao Kaidao had an arrowhead embedded in his bone. He ordered a craftsman to extract it, but the craftsman failed. When asked why, the craftsman replied that he feared causing the King pain. Gao Kaidao executed him and ordered another physician, who claimed, "I can extract it." Using a small axe, he drove it into the bone at the site of the wound to a depth of one cun, then used forceps to pull out the arrowhead. Gao Kaidao ate and drank as usual and rewarded this medical artisan with three hundred bolts of silk. (From *Cha'an Xiao Cheng*)
Qili San (Seven-Cent Powder) is specifically used to treat metal wounds (Jinchuang), falls and blows, fractures, broken tendons, and uncontrolled bleeding. First, take seven li (a unit of weight) of the medicine, dissolve it in distilled liquor, and ingest it. Then, mix the medicine with distilled liquor and apply it topically to the injury. If the wound is large, sprinkle the dry powder directly onto the wound. It stops pain and bleeding immediately. The prescription consists of: Cinnabar (Zhusha) 1 qian 2 fen (cleaned by water levigation), Musk (Shexiang) 1 li 2 hao, Borneol (Bingpian) 1 li 2 hao, Frankincense (Ruxiang) 1 qian 5 fen, Safflower (Honghua) 1 qian 5 fen, Myrrh (Moyao) 1 qian 5 fen, Dragon's Blood (Xuejie) 1 liang, and Camptotheca fruit (Ercha) 2 qian 4 fen. On the noon hour of the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, grind these ingredients into an extremely fine powder and store them tightly sealed. Take seven li per dose; do not overdose.
During an archery contest in the suburbs of Danyang, Liu Juanzi suddenly shot at an object about two zhang high. After being hit, it fled like lightning, making sounds like wind and rain, so he dared not advance at night. The next day, leading dozens of men, he tracked it down. At the foot of a mountain, he saw a child and asked, "Where are you going?" The child replied, "My master was shot by Liu Juanzi last night and is fetching water to wash the wound." Liu asked who the master was, and the child answered, "It is the Huangfu Ghost." Liu returned the child. Soon after, hearing the sound of pounding, he saw three people from afar: one lying down, one reading, and one pounding herbs. They shouted and charged forward, then all three fled, leaving behind a scroll of formulas for carbuncles and sores and a mortar of medicine. Liu Juanzi obtained these, and when accompanying Emperor Wu of Song on a northern campaign, he applied the medicine to wounded soldiers, curing them instantly. Using this formula, Liu achieved success in thousands of cases without error. He expanded it into ten volumes, titled *Gui Yi Fang* (Ghost's Legacy Formula). (Preface by Gong Qingxian to *Gui Yi Fang*)
In the Yuan Tai era of the Song Dynasty, a man named Liu in Qingzhou shot a deer, dissected its five viscera, stuffed them with green grass, and the deer suddenly stood up. Surprised, the man pulled out the grass, and the deer fell again. This happened three times. He recorded this herb, planted it, and found it effective mainly for traumatic injuries. It is commonly called Liu Jinu Grass, also known as Tianmingjing, belonging to the same category as Liu Ji Nu. (*Cha'an Xiao Cheng*)
(Note: Both the previous account of Liu Juanzi and this one derive from the story of Song Ancestor Liu Yu at Dizhou. The key point is that the medicine used is Liu Ji Nu.)
Fei Hao was walking in the mountains when a mountain spider lowered a thread like a piece of cloth towards him. He drew his bow and shot it dead. The spider was as large as a chariot wheel. He cut several feet of its silk and kept it. For subordinates suffering from metal wounds, he cut a square inch of the silk and applied it, stopping the blood immediately. (*Nanbu Xinshu*)
When Xiahou Yun served as the magistrate of Langzhou, a man with an arrow scar on his forehead told him, "I was shot while serving under Marshal Ma during the campaign against Tian Yue. Marshal Ma gave me a remedy made of slightly fried croton seeds (Badou) pounded together with dung beetles (Qiangan) and applied topically. After a short while, the pain subsided and a slight itching began. When the itching became unbearable, I shook the area to dislodge it, and the arrow came out immediately. Later, I applied a flesh-regenerating medicine, and it healed. I give this formula to you, Yun, saying that it can treat all kinds of sores." Later, when Yun arrived in Hongzhou, the wife of an innkeeper was groaning from a sore; using this formula, she recovered immediately. (*Bencao Gangmu*)
For arrowheads embedded and unable to exit, apply a mixture of dung beetles (Qiangan) and croton seeds (Badou). The itching will be intolerable; use a lodestone (Xiong Cishi) to clamp the area, and the arrow will come out. Ivory, male rat liver and brain, chestnut fragments, black chicken tail feathers, ash-white plum kernels, melon seeds, teeth marks, and black lice can all extract arrowheads. For needles or threads embedded in the flesh, Zhang Zihe's formula in *Rumen Shishen* suggests taking Datura (Langdang) on the Dragon Boat Festival, forming pills coated with red lead (Huangdan), placing them on the navel, and the arrowhead will naturally emerge. Liu Jianshu stated, "In recent military campaigns, only dried amaranth mixed with rock sugar is used to extract arrowheads and lead pellets. This is a frequently verified method not recorded in ancient formulas."
Once, a person suffered a shoulder wound with blood gushing out. A physician used silkworm excrement (Yuancansha), ground into fine powder and applied, stopping the blood immediately. Another source says using genuine Agarwood (Xiang), preserved with residual heat, ground into powder and applied, is even more effective. (*Chujian Xu Yi Xu Lu Ji*)
Weng Kentang said, "I recently obtained a formula for metal wounds with miraculous effects, promoting muscle growth within three days. Use gallbladder bile from a yellow cow, preserve its nature, grind into fine powder, and apply. This is truly a unique formula." (*Xu Yi Shuo*)
Bu Zhier accompanied the Grand Khan on a campaign against the Huihui. He was struck by several arrows, bleeding profusely until he fainted nearly to death. The Grand Khan ordered a cow to be slaughtered, its abdomen opened, and Bu Zhier placed inside, immersed in the hot blood. After some time, he revived. Similarly, Li Ting followed Bayan in the attack on Yingzhou. He was wounded by cannon fire on his left flank, with an arrow piercing his chest, nearly dying. Bayan ordered a water buffalo to be slaughtered, its abdomen opened, and Li Ting placed inside. After a long while, he revived. He Mengchun stated, "While serving in the Ministry of War, none of the border commanders knew this technique; one must read the *History of Yuan* to know it. Therefore, I record this here for emergencies." (*Bencao Gangmu*)
Sun Fazhong suffered from a head sore. One night, a woman appeared, saying, "I am a heavenly messenger. This matter does not concern good people; it was an error by the messenger. Just boil cow dung and apply it, and it will work." Following this advice, he indeed recovered. (*Song Shu*, *Bencao Gangmu*)
Zhang Xi was struck by eighteen arrows, one penetrating his abdomen, causing him to faint. Emperor Shizu immediately provided Dragon's Blood (Xuejie) and sent someone to treat him. (*Yuan Shi*)
Among the Mongols, there were Moergen and Chuoerji, who were proficient in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Esuo, a vanguard of the Plain White Banner, was severely wounded by a stray arrow in battle with the Mongols. Chuoerji extracted the arrowhead and applied medicine, resulting in recovery. Also, Commander Wu Bai received over thirty arrow wounds in battle and fell into a coma. Chuoerji ordered a white camel to be slaughtered, its abdomen opened, and Wu Bai placed inside, whereupon he revived. Additionally, a disciple of the Daoist priest Miao Junji had an arm bent and unable to straighten. Chuoerji first steamed it with hot steam, then used an axe to tap the bone, manipulating it by hand until a clicking sound indicated proper alignment, curing him. (*Huanyou Biji* by Yu Wenjie)
Zhu Chaofu, courtesy name Yaomin, known as Xueyi Daoren, was a scholar from Luoyang. Famous for his writing in his youth, after the fall of the Ming Dynasty, he abandoned civil service examinations to become a doctor, calling himself Xueyi Daoren. He inherited supernatural surgical arts from immortals. For any severe sores, applying a small amount of his medicine cured them instantly. For those with broken legs or arms, he treated them perfectly. If abdominal surgery, bowel washing, skull opening, or spinal fluid washing were required, he was as divine as Hua Tuo. A villager whose head had been severed by bandits, though the head was detached, his son knew of Zhu's divinity and told his family, "Zhu Chaofu is an immortal; quickly invite him." The family replied, "Master, how can you speak nonsense? The neck is not connected to the head." Even if he had a Resurrection Pill, how could he rejoin a separated body? The son insisted. Upon arrival, Zhu felt the chest and said, "Although the head is severed, the body still has warmth. Warmth is vital energy (Shengqi); with vital energy, treatment is possible." He urgently sutured the head to the neck with silver needles, applied a measure of medicinal powder, warmed it with charcoal fire, and shortly after, brewed Ginseng decoction mixed with other herbs, pried open the teeth, and administered it. In a moment, slight breathing resumed at the nose, followed by warm wine. After one day and night, he spoke, calling his son to converse, and then progressed to rice gruel. After another day and night, he could move his limbs. The wound closed in seven days, and he was fully recovered in half a month. The family thanked him, offering half their property as reward. Yaomin refused and later retreated to Zhongnan Mountain to cultivate the Dao, never to be seen again. Having no son, his techniques were not passed down. (*Yuchu Xin Zhi* by Chen Dingjiu)

In Huihui lands, there were elderly people aged seventy or eighty who voluntarily sacrificed themselves for the public. They abstained from food and drink, bathing and consuming only honey. After a hundred years, the coffin was opened, and the honey collected. Anyone with limb injuries consumed a small amount and recovered immediately. It was rare even there, commonly called Honey Man, or Mummy in foreign tongues. (*Zhuge Lu*)
