After childbirth, mistakenly using Qi-regulating and Qi-consuming herbs instead increases a sensation of fullness and oppression; even Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) should not be used in large quantities.
After childbirth, overusing digestive-promoting herbs leads to reduced appetite and damage to Stomach Qi, potentially resulting in an inability to eat at all.
After childbirth, mistakenly using Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Lianzi (Corydalis Rhizoma? *Note: Context implies Coptidis Rhizoma/Huanglian based on pairing with Zhimu/Baidou, but text says Lianzi which is unusual, likely typo for Huanglian or specific local usage. Given standard TCM context "Qin, Lian, Zhi, Bai" usually refers to Huangqin, Huanglian, Zhimu, Hujiao. I will translate as Huanglian/Coptidis Rhizoma for accuracy to the classic quartet, or stick to literal if strict. The prompt asks for WHO standards. "Lian" in this context almost certainly refers to Huanglian. I will use Huanglian*), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), and Baidu (Phellodendri Cortex) causes Stomach Qi to rebel and internal heat to increase, potentially leading to an inability to eat.
After childbirth, while pain from blood stasis masses remains, mistakenly using Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), [Huangqi] (Astragali Radix), and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) can cause blood stasis to stagnate if mild, or lead to immediate death if severe.
After childbirth, mistakenly using Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata) obstructs the discharge of lochia. Using only Zhike (Aurantii Fructus) and Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) to dissipate mass pain consumes Yuan Qi (Primal Qi).
After childbirth, mistakenly using Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) and Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas) to promote bowel movements inevitably results in abdominal distension.
After childbirth, mistakenly using Sumu (Sappan Lignum), Sanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma), and Ezhu (Curcumae Rhizoma) to move blood masses can damage newly formed blood if mild, or endanger life if severe.
For postpartum women who are physically weak, mistakenly using Shanzha (Crataegi Fructus) decocted in wine to attack blood clumps inevitably damages Yuan Qi, leading to incessant sweating.
After childbirth, mistakenly believing in *Chanshi Baiwen* (Hundred Questions of the Delivery Room) and *Furen Liangfang* (Excellent Prescriptions for Women), and using Jikun Dan to expel the placenta, taking three to five pills, causes various diseases to arise.
After childbirth, mistakenly relying on *Chanshi Baiwen* and *Furen Liangfang*, the condition becomes so severe that it is incurable.
Any situation after delivery characterized by blurred vision, dizziness, unconsciousness, and lack of awareness is termed Xueyun (Blood Fainting). There are three causes: first, exhaustion from excessive labor leading to Qi depletion and divine confusion; second, excessive blood loss leading to impending collapse of Yuan Qi; third, Phlegm-Fire rising due to deficiency, causing mental cloudiness. In these three conditions, the Hun (Ethereal Soul) does not travel with the Shen (Spirit), and respiration and pulse nearly cease. Immediately administer Jiawei Shenghua Tang (Modified Birth-Transforming Decoction) two to three doses to move blood masses and stop pain. Externally, use the Vinegar and Chinese Chive method to stimulate the nose, allowing the mother to smell the vinegar, thereby gathering and consolidating her spirit. This is an emergency method for treating Blood Fainting. Generally, for frail mothers during labor, Jiawei Shenghua Tang should be prepared in advance, along with bottles of vinegar and chives, to prevent such incidents. This is the most comprehensive approach. Once the baby is born, do not focus solely on the child while neglecting the mother. The mother should also not forget her own fatigue while caring for the child. Furthermore, lying down immediately after birth, or experiencing anger leading to rebellious Qi, can all induce fainting. Be extremely cautious.
Jiawei Shenghua Tang (Modified Birth-Transforming Decoction)
Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (3 qian) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (6 qian) Jiangtan (Zingiberis Rhizoma Carbonisatum) (4 fen) Taoren (Persicae Semen) (10 grains) Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata) (5 fen) Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica) (5 fen)
Decoct in water until reduced to 8 fen, add wine and take hot. If sweating is profuse, add Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) 2 qian, [Huangqi] (Astragali Radix) 1 qian; however, this is only applicable when there is no pain from blood masses. If pain is severe, add Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) 5 fen. If thirsty, add Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix) 1 qian, Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus) 10 grains. If there is phlegm, add Zhuli (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia) half cup, Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Recens Juice) one spoon. If fainting is caused by Phlegm-Fire rising due to deficiency, add Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum) 4 fen. If pulses in both hands are hidden or the right hand pulse is absent, add Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) 4 qian, Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix) 1 qian, Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus) 2 qian.
Commentary: When treating Blood Fainting, absolutely avoid using blood-breaking and Qi-consuming herbs. Even Shanzha (Crataegi Fructus), despite its mild nature, should not be taken. For cases with blood mass pain, Shenghua Tang can be taken alongside Yimu Wan (Motherwort Pill) and Lujiotan (Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum Carbonisatum). If Qi collapse is imminent, with clenched jaw preventing oral medication, insert a goose feather tube into the throat to instill the medicine. If the body gradually warms up after instillation, continue instilling regardless of the number of doses. Additionally, use warm hands to massage from the heart region down to the abdomen over single-layer clothing, and frequently change into warm clothes to maintain warmth. The patient will naturally regain consciousness gradually. If, upon waking, the pain from blood masses persists, reduce or omit Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and [Huangqi] (Astragali Radix), and take only Shenghua Tang alone. Wait until the blood masses dissipate and pain stops before administering Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and [Huangqi] (Astragali Radix).
