Postpartum generalized body pain is caused by the opening of all joints during childbirth, leading to stagnation of blood vessels that does not dissipate for days. This results in the discomfort of meridians and collaterals, causing the inability to turn or bend the waist and back, and the inability to move or walk with the hands and feet. It may also be accompanied by fever and headache. If mistakenly treated as an exterior pathogen of the Taiyang (Greater Yang) channel and treated with diaphoresis (sweating methods), it will lead to cold extremities and become a critical condition. It is appropriate to treat with Qutong San (Pain-Relieving Powder). The kidneys are located near the Bao Gong (uterus), and the waist is the mansion of the kidneys. Childbirth damages Kidney Qi and injures the Bao Luo (uterine collaterals). Alternatively, Wind-Cold may invade when the postpartum state has not yet recovered. Both conditions cause lower back pain and are appropriately treated with Yangrong Zhuangshen Tang (Nourishing Prosperity and Strengthening Kidney Decoction) or Jiawei Dazao Wan (Modified Great Creation Pill). If there is pain in the lower abdomen and Shenghua Tang (Life-Birth Decoction) has not been taken, one must inquire about the status of E Lu (lochia). If the pain can be slightly relieved by pressing and kneading, it belongs to Deficiency (Xu) and is appropriately treated with Jiawei Shenghua Tang (Modified Life-Birth Decoction).

Postpartum breast carbuncles and abscesses initially present with alternating chills and fever resembling malaria. They should not be treated as malaria, nor should they be treated entirely with detoxifying and abscess-resolving herbs. Instead, one should greatly tonify Qi and Blood, assisted by herbs such as Yin Hua (Jasmine Flower/Honeysuckle) to disperse pathogenic toxins. If pus has not formed and pain is unbearable, Gualou Ruxiao San (Trichosanthes Root and Frankincense Powder) is appropriate. If pus has formed, Baidu Dabu Tang (Detoxifying and Great Tonification Decoction) is appropriate, with Matixiang (Callicarpa Leaf/Root) mashed externally applied. If pus has drained and weakness increases daily, Shiquan Dabu Tang (Perfect Ten Great Tonification Decoction) is appropriate.
