First, determine the acupoints. Have the patient stand upright with a straight body. Take a thin string, pull it taut, ensuring it does not stretch or shrink. Place it flat against the sole of the foot, pressing firmly. For males, use the left foot; for females, use the right foot. Align the front end of the string with the tip of the great toe, and align the rear end with the center of the heel. Extend the string backward, following the calf紧贴 the skin straight up to the transverse crease at the knee joint (Quangu), and cut the string there. Then, have the patient untie their hair and part it on both sides to reveal the midline suture of the scalp. From the anterior fontanelle (Xinmen), divide equally to the back of the head. The patient should then sit upright with a straight posture. Take one end of the previously cut string, align it with the tip of the nose, and extend it upward along the midline suture of the head. Let it hang down贴着 the skin at the back of the head. Follow the spine, extending the string downward until the string is exhausted. Mark this point on the spine with ink. (Note: This ink mark is not the moxibustion site.) Take another string. Have the patient close their mouth. Place the string horizontally across the mouth, with both ends reaching the corners of the lips (Kouwei). Lift the center of the string to stop below the root of the nasal bridge. Cut the string so it matches the distance between the two corners of the lips. Straighten this string and place it horizontally across the ink mark on the spine obtained earlier. Ensure it is level, neither high nor low. Fold the string in half, and mark the center with ink. Unfold the string and measure horizontally again. Align the ink mark on the string precisely with the ink mark on the spine as the correct position. Find the midpoint of both ends of the string, ensuring no height difference. Mark these two points with white circles; these white circles indicate the moxibustion acupoints. These are the first two acupoints marked.
For the second pair of acupoints, have the patient sit upright with a straight body and slightly retract the arms. Take a string and wrap it around the neck, letting it hang down in two strands forward, aligning with the Jiawei acupoint (Jiawei, located at the xiphoid process). Note that some individuals may lack a distinct xiphoid process. Measure one cun downward from the lower end of the bifurcation of the chest bones to locate Jiawei. Cut the string in double strands. Turn the ends of the string back towards the nape of the neck. Align the center of the string with the heart's midline, positioning it directly above the laryngeal prominence (Adam's apple). The two strands of the string hang down along the sides of the neck. Mark the points along the spine with ink. (Note: This ink mark is not the moxibustion site.) Take another string. Have the patient close their mouth. Measure horizontally across the mouth, cutting it to match the distance between the two corners of the lips. Use this string to measure horizontally on the spine's ink mark as before. Mark the two ends of the string with white circles; these white circles indicate the moxibustion acupoints. These are the second pair of acupoints marked. In total, four acupoints have been marked. Moxibustion is applied to all simultaneously, seven moxa cones (Zhuang) per acupoint per day. For the subsequent acupoints (or cumulative treatment), accumulate moxibustion to one hundred Zhuang, or ideally one hundred fifty Zhuang. Wait until the moxibustion blisters are about to heal, then follow the next method to mark and moxa two more acupoints.
For the next pair of acupoints, use the string that was used to measure the mouth corners in the second step. At the end of the double string strands from the second step, where the ink marks were made on the spine, mark vertically up and down along the spine... (The original text cuts off here, but context implies marking the fourth flower acupoints). These are the third pair of acupoints marked, known as the Si Hua Xue (Four Flower Acupoints). Moxa each of these two acupoints with one hundred Zhuang. In total, three sessions yield six acupoints. Each time, perform the measurement away from direct sunlight. After measurement, begin moxibustion immediately. It is best to use Mugwort (Ai Ye) collected on the third day of the third lunar month. Within one hundred days after the illness subsides, avoid certain foods, sexual activity, and rest in a quiet, peaceful environment. If after one month the illness has not fully resolved, return to the original acupoints and re-moxa.
