Nourishing the source of urine, Fuzi (Aconite Lateralis Radix Preparata) and Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus) benefit the Fire of Mingmen (Gate of Life), thereby transforming the Qi of the Bladder. This steams and transforms body fluids, unblocks the water passages, and allows urination to flow freely. This is why Wu Ling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) is not used, but Shen Qi Wan (Kidney Qi Pill) is employed instead.
For women suffering from cold in the yin region, a warming vaginal suppository should be used; Shechuangzi San (Cnidium Seed Powder) is the primary formula.
[Annotation] "Cold in the yin" refers to coldness in the external genitalia, treated with a warming vaginal suppository. Shechuangzi (Cnidii Fructus) has a warm nature and strong heat, capable of strengthening yang; thus, it is inserted into the vagina to assist yang and dispel yin-cold.
[Collected Comment] Shen Mingzong stated: This is a formula for treating pulling pain in the yin region and aversion to cold in the lower abdomen. When the Bao Men (uterine gate) suffers from yang deficiency and cold invasion, various manifestations may appear, not merely aversion to cold in the lower abdomen. However, since the cold enters through the vaginal orifice and does not exit via the exterior, one must warm the site of pathogenic invasion for recovery. Therefore, using only Shechuangzi (Cnidii Fructus), which is greatly hot and warms/assists yang, inserted into the yin, warms the uterus, expels the pathogen, and cures the disease.
Shechuangzi San Formula
Shechuangzi Ren (Cnidii Fructus)
Grind the above single herb into powder. Mix with a small amount of Baifen (likely starch or talc-based powder) until well combined. Shape into pills the size of a jujube. Wrap in silk gauze and insert into the vagina. It will naturally produce warmth.
When the Shaoyin pulse is slippery and rapid, sores will arise in the yin region. If there are erosive ulcers in the yin, wash with Yelangya Tang (Wolf's Tooth Decoction).
[Annotation] "Yin zhong" refers to the external genitalia. Sores and erosion result from damp-heat and lack of cleanliness causing infestation. Washing with Yelangya Tang removes damp-heat and kills parasites. "Yelangya" is not the tooth of a wild wolf, but the herb Yelangya Cao (Sanguisorbae Radix or similar). If unavailable, Yelangdu (Metanephropsis Aconiti Radix) can be substituted. If the sores are deep and washing cannot reach them, use the following method.
[Collected Comment] Li [Kean] said: Shaoyin belongs to the Kidney. The yin region is the orifice of the Kidney. The *Neijing* states: "Slippery indicates excess of yin qi." It also says: "Rapid indicates heat." Therefore, sores and erosion in the yin are caused by damp-heat. Yelangya is bitter and cold; cold overcomes heat, and bitterness kills parasites, hence it is used for washing.
Yelangya Tang Formula
Yelangya (4 liang)
Take the above single herb, add 4 sheng of water, boil to obtain 0.5 sheng. Wrap the liquid-soaked material in cotton thread shaped like a silkworm cocoon, dip in the decoction, and drip/wash into the yin region four times daily.
If Stomach Qi leaks downward, causing flatulence from the anterior orifice with audible noise, this is due to excess of Grain Qi. It should be guided/treated with Gao Fa Jian (Fat and Hair Decoction).
[Note] The five characters "Gao Fa Jian dao zhi" (guided by Fat and Hair Decoction) are likely interpolations. After "This is due to excess of Grain Qi," the six characters "Chang fu He Li Le Wan" (long-term服用 of Chebula Pill) should exist. Downward gas from the posterior orifice is called Qi Li (gas diarrhea), treated with He Li Le San (Chebula Powder); downward gas from the anterior orifice is called Yin Chui (yin blowing), treated with He Li Le Wan (Chebula Pill). Only then does the text make sense, and do the medicine and disease correspond. He Li Le Wan uses He Li Le (Terminalia chebula) to secure deficient descending Qi, and Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) and Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) to calm excess Grain Qi, which is consistent. The formula was misplaced in the *Miscellaneous Treatments Chapter*. The following formula for pediatric malnutrition insect-induced dental caries, which kills insects and detoxifies, might belong in a separate Pediatric Section or Miscellaneous Formulas section; its placement at the end of Women's Miscellaneous Diseases is also a misplacement.
[Annotation] Kidney deficiency and failure to secure leads to downward leakage of Qi. "Yin Chui er zheng xuan" refers to audible gas emission from the anterior orifice. "Excess of Grain Qi" refers to Excess Stomach Qi and Deficient Kidney Qi. He Li Le Wan secures descending Qi and drains Grain Qi.
