According to the *Taiping Shenghui Fang* (General Principles of the Holy惠民 Bureau Formulas), the clinical manifestations include itching and pain in the lips and mouth, teeth turning dark black, sores on the tongue, a sensation of dryness and heat in the head, redness and ulceration of the gingiva, swelling of the cheeks with toothache, steaming by heat-toxin, and foul breath.
Commentary: This refers to the milder and slower-progressing form of Zouma Gan (a severe, rapidly progressing necrotizing stomatitis). The description in the *Shenghui Fang* seems somewhat exaggerated. The treatment method should involve internal administration of Qingwei San (Clear Stomach Powder) or Ganlu Yin (Sweet Dew Decoction). Externally, equal parts of Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis, stir-fried until black), Lvfan (Green Vitriol, calcined until red-hot), and Renzhongbai (Calcinata Dentis Hominis) are mixed with a small amount of rice flakes to rub the teeth. Alternatively, adding powder of Binglang (Areca Seed) for its vermifuge effect is also acceptable.
*Tan Shi Shusheng* Formula for Treating Various Malignant Sores of Dental Gangrene in Children and Adults:
Feiguo Huangdan (Water-washed Lead Monoxide), Xurong (Boswellia Carteri Gum), Feiguo Baijian (Water-washed Alum), Peizi Yanzhi (Raw Cinnabar Red Dye) (each 1 qian), Qingfen (Calomel), Shexiang (Moschus) (a small amount).
Grind all ingredients into a fine powder. Adjust the medication according to whether the patient is an adult or a child. First, wash the sore clean with Jiangshui (fermented grain liquid), then apply the powder dry.
*Jubao Fang* Huangfan San: Treats receding gums exposing roots in adults and children, Gucao Feng (Bone Trench Wind, resembling mandibular osteomyelitis), acute Gan gangrene causing gingival rot in children, and malignant swelling and pain.
Huangfan (1 liang, ground and calcined in a gan pot until red-hot), Sheng Gan Dihuang (Dried Rehmanniae Radix), Wutonglv (Liquidambar Resin), Chuan Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (each 0.5 liang), Gan Xiamato (Two dried toad heads, roasted until charred).
Grind these five herbs into powder. Apply half a qian directly to the affected area each time. After some time, saliva will be secreted; rinse the mouth with Gancao water. One or two doses yield immediate results. Another version uses Shu Gan Dihuang (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix) and ash from toad heads.
*Liu Shi Jia Chuan Fang* treats oral Gan sores in children, attributing them to worms in the lower body. Smoke from burning Damaizi (Cannabis Seeds) is used for fumigation.
*Zhuang Shi Jia Chuan* Formula for Treating Necrosis and Ulceration of Dental Gangrene in Children:
Baiyaojian (Tannin Pill), Peizi Yanzhi (Raw Cinnabar Red Dye).
Mix equal parts, grind into a fine powder, and sieve. Apply to the affected area.
*Wu Shi Jia Chuan* Qingxia San: Treats pediatric oral and dental gangrene.
Xiamato (One toad, calcined to ash), Zhigancao (Roasted Licorice Root), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) (each 1 fen).
Grind into a fine powder, adding a small amount of real Shexiang (Moschus). If the child has widespread ulcers throughout the mouth that are foul-smelling and causing tooth loss, sweep the powder onto the lesions using a chicken feather for immediate effect.
Before use, rinse the mouth with salt water and dry thoroughly before application.
Master An's transmitted formula for treating oral, dental, and pharyngeal Gan sores presenting as white membranes:

Formula for Treating Gan Erosion of Lips and Teeth and Sore Formation:
Chantou (One large toad head, calcined to ash), Shexiang (Moschus) (0.5 qian).
Grind uniformly into a powder. Sprinkle onto the sores for immediate effect.
Formula for Treating Receding Gums at Lips, Mouth, and Tooth Roots, and Foul-Smelling Gingival Sores:
Tingli (Descurainiae Semen seu Fructus, stir-fried), Hu Huanglian (Picrorhizae Rhizoma) (each 2 qian), Huangdan (Lead Monoxide) (0.5 liang).
Grind into powder. Apply half a qian to the gums each time. Ensure the patient does not swallow the saliva. (This formula is used in Zhuang's Twelfth Manifestation).
Secret Recipe for Treating Rotting Dental Gangrene and Chancre:
