A question was asked: "What if several nodules appear on the thigh and leg, causing swelling and pain for a long time, with persistent ulceration?" The answer is: This condition is named *Gua Teng Chan* (Climbing Vine Entanglement), belonging to the Foot-Taiyang Channel. It is caused by damp-heat in the zang-fu organs flowing downward to the lower part of the body. Treatment should primarily use *Fang Feng Tong Sheng San* (Saposhnikovia Decoction for Unimpeded Circulation) with added Areca Seed (*Arecae Semen*), Achyranthes Root (*Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix*), and Stephania Root (*Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix*).
Another question was asked: "What if sores appear between the shins, resembling ox eyes, with colors ranging from purple to black, oozing pus continuously, where scabs form only to ulcerate again, failing to heal for a long time?" The answer is: This condition is named *Shi Du Liu Zhu* (Damp-Toxin Flowing Accumulation). It arises from invasion by cold-dampness and summerheat due to exposure to violent winds, heavy rain, or other climatic factors penetrating the *Cou Li* (interstices of skin and muscles). It is advisable to take *Fang Feng Tong Sheng San* with added Quince Fruit (*Chaenomelis Fructus*), Achyranthes Root, and Stephania Root; or alternatively, *Dang Gui Nian Tong Tang* (Angelica Decoction for Relieving Pain) with added Achyranthes Root.
Another question was asked: "What if there is continuous discharge of pus from the feet and knees, persisting for years without healing?" The answer is: This condition is named *Xia Zhu Chuang* (Lower-Falling Sore), also called *Shi Du Chuang* (Damp-Toxin Sore). It results from damp-heat in the spleen and stomach flowing downward, causing the muscles to lose sensation and form sores. Externally, it involves the Foot-Taiyang and Foot-Shaoyang channels; internally, it involves the Foot-Jueyin Liver channel and Foot-Taiyin Spleen channel. One should take *Fang Feng Tong Sheng San* with added Quince Fruit, Stephania Root, and Achyranthes Root. Externally, wash with wind-dispelling herbal decoctions and apply patches made from *Nv Zhen Ye* (Ligustrum Leaf).
The *Ling Shu* states: "Sores arising at the inner ankle are named *Zou Huan*. Their appearance shows no change in color of the abscess; repeatedly needling their Shu points to halt chills and fever ensures survival."
Another question was asked: "What if a carbuncle appears on the inner aspect of the foot?" The answer is: This condition is named *Xie Dai Yong* (Shoelace Carbuncle). It is caused by cold-dampness stagnating in the Foot-Yangming Stomach channel, interacting with the Foot-Jueyin Liver channel, leading to sluggish blood flow and obstructed qi. Initially, moxibustion with garlic slices is suitable, along with taking *Liu Qi Yin* (Flowing-Qi Drink) with added Achyranthes Root, Quince Fruit, and Stephania Root. For robust individuals, *Yi Li Jin Dan* (One-Pill Golden Elixir) can be used to purge the pathogen. For the elderly or weak, *Shi Quan Da Bu Tang* (Decoction for Great Tonification of All Ten Powers) and *Nei Tuo Huang Qi Chai Hu Tang* (Internal-Supporting Astragalus and Bupleurum Decoction) should be used as primary formulas.
Another question was asked: "What if a carbuncle appears on the outer ankle?" The answer is: This condition is named *Jiao Guai Du* (Ankle Deformity Toxin). It belongs to the Shaoyang Gallbladder channel and the Foot-Taiyang Bladder channel, caused by damp-heat flowing downward. Suitable treatments include selecting *Nei Tuo Qiang Huo Tang* (Internal-Supporting Notopterygium Decoction), *Huang Lian Xiao Du San* (Coptis Decoction for Eliminating Toxins), or *Nei Tuo Fu Jian San* (Internal-Supporting Re-decocted Powder); *Sheng Jin Dan* (Life-Generating Elixir), *Wu Jin San* (Black Gold Powder), and *Zi Jin Dan* (Purple Gold Elixir) are all applicable.
Another question was asked: "What if a carbuncle on the shin becomes severely ulcerated, fails to heal for a long time, and discharges bone fragments?" The answer is: This condition is named *Duo Gu Ju* (Multiple-Bone Abscess), also known as *Sheng Gu* (Remaining Bone) or *Xiu Gu* (Rotting Bone). This occurs because toxic vapors are excessive and condense to form this bone structure, which is not normal bone. It is advisable to take *Sheng Jin Dan*, *Shi Quan Da Bu Tang* with added Achyranthes Root and Stephania Root, alternating with *Zi Jin Dan*, *Wu Jin San*, and *Ren Shen Yang Rong Tang* (Ginseng Decoction for Nourishing Young Spirit) with added Quince Fruit, Achyranthes Root, and Stephania Root. This abscess occurred because tonifying agents were overused before ulceration, causing toxins to consolidate rather than dissipate. Therefore, it is recommended to apply *Xian Zhi Huang Long Gao* (Immortal Paper Yellow Dragon Ointment).
