Verbena officinalis (Mabiancao)
Mainly treats sores in the lower body.
Tao Hongjing said: It is very common in villages and along paths. The stem resembles Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin), the flowers are purple, and the leaves are slightly similar to Artemisia argyi (Penghao). The commentary of the Tang Bencao states: The seedling resembles Cynodon dactylon (Yelangya) and Leonurus japonicus (Chongwei). Verbena officinalis (Mabiancao) mainly treats accumulations and blood masses (Zhengpi Xuejia), chronic malaria, and breaks blood stasis. Made into a decoction like sugar, taken with wine. If it is said to resemble the sheath of a horse whip, that is not close to the truth. Its nodes produce purple flowers, resembling the nodes of a horse whip. Chen Yuxi and others respectfully note according to the Shu Benbencao: Bitter in taste, slightly cold, non-toxic. Also, the Tujing states: Grows in wetlands. Flowers are white, producing three or four spikes; harvested in July and August, dried in the sun. Found everywhere. The Yaoxing Lun states: Verbena officinalis (Mabiancao) can also be used alone. Bitter in taste, toxic. Freshly crushed and boiled in water, strained, resulting in a decoction like maltose syrup. Taken on an empty stomach with wine, one bi (a small spoonful). Mainly treats breaking down and expelling evil blood in the abdomen, effective for killing parasites. Ri Huazi stated: Pungent in taste, cool, non-toxic. Promotes menstruation, treats women's blood qi abdominal distension and irregular menstruation. Resembens Leonurus japonicus (Yimucao), with a round stem, using both stem and leaves.
The Tujing states: Verbena officinalis (Mabiancao), previously not recorded with specific origin provinces, is now found in Hengshan, Lushan, and various prefectures in Jianghuai. In spring, seedlings emerge resembling Cynodon dactylon (Yelangya), also similar to Leonurus japonicus (Yimucao) but with a round stem, growing three to two chi high. Producing three or four spikes, harvested in July and August, dried in the sun for use. Leaves are sweet and bitter, slightly cold, slightly toxic. Some say the seeds are also generally usable, frequently used in ancient prescriptions. Ge Shi treats sudden massive abdominal ascites. Uses ten jin each of Verbena officinalis (Mabiancao) and Salvia miltiorrhiza root? No, likely Salvia plebeia (Shuweicao), one shi of water, boiled to obtain five dou, strained, then concentrated again, mixed with powder to form pills. One dose of two to three soybean sizes, increased to four or five beans, divine efficacy.

Drink one sheng of juice from crushed Verbena officinalis (Mabiancao); ginger water is also acceptable, leading to immediate resolution.
