I believe that in families facing difficulty conceiving, it is either due to the woman's Yin blood being weak and depleted, or the man's essence and Qi being exhausted. For women who have been married for a long time without conceiving, one should widely arrange for concubines, selecting those with robust Qi and blood to bear children on behalf of the principal wife. As for men, they must regulate their mind and body, and take effective medicines for an extended period until their internal energy is profound and complete; only then can they expect results within a certain timeframe. Regarding male infertility, it is not merely attributed to dryness of blood and depletion of essence in the Left Kidney, nor solely to cold Qi and deficient Shen (Spirit) in the Right Kidney. "Blood dryness" implies excessive Yang failing to nourish Yin; "Essence depletion" implies exhaustion of Water failing to control Yang; "Qi cold" implies Yin stagnation failing to warm the essence; "Shen deficiency" implies fatigue failing to direct the essence to the uterus. This stems from congenital constitutional deficiency, resulting in sparse fruits and flowers. The key to treatment lies precisely here. To tonify the Left Kidney, one should use purely sweet agents that strengthen Water to moisten; to support the Right Kidney, one should employ sweet-warm agents that benefit Fire to warm. The primary formula should be Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill), ensuring the source of transformation is maintained. Retain Shudi Huang (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix), Shizao (likely Gouqizi/Lycium fruit or similar, kept as per text), Huaishan (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), and Fuling (Poria) to benefit the essence and Qi of both kidneys; remove Danpi (Moutan Cortex) which disperses blood, and Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) which promotes urination, to directly supplement the divine mechanism of the One Origin. In cases of Left Kidney Yin deficiency, add Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Guijiao (Tortoise Shell Glue), Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex), and Gouqi (Lycii Fructus). In cases of Right Kidney Yang decline, assist with Ren Shen, Dang Gui, Lu Jiao Jiao (Deer Antler Glue), Bajiji (Morinda Officinalis Radix), and Shu Fuzi (Prepared Aconiti Lateralis Radix). Generally, if Left Kidney Yin is deficient, without Ren Shen boosting Yang to generate Yin, it cannot work; if Right Kidney Yang is declining, without Shu Fuzi transforming Yin to benefit Yang, it cannot enhance Yang. If Yin essence floats and scatters rather than sinking firmly, add Shayuanjili (Astragali Complanati Semen) and Tusizi (Cuscutae Semen). If Yang Qi sinks and fails to ascend, Jiejie (Platycodonis Radix), Huang [missing character, likely Huangqi or Huangbai], and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) are essential. If Dragon Fire flares up, Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) and Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) must absolutely not be used; if Shen Light is quiet, Shechuangzi (Cnidii Fructus) and Huba (Pyrenariae Semen) are certainly inappropriate. A single dose of Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata cum Melle) can eliminate false heat; half a spoonful of Yizhou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex from Yizhou) best raises deep cold. When essence is thin and leakage occurs, Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus) should be used first; when Qi dissipates and fails to consolidate, Guzhi (Drynariae Rhizoma) should not be delayed. If both spirit and form are declined, and essence and Qi are minute, there is no need to distinguish between Left/Right or Yin/Yang. However, Renbao (Human Placenta) strongly tonifies True Yuan, and Aqu (Fossa Nasalis Canis Marini) urgently treats deficiency exhaustion; these cannot be delayed. Although Renbao represents "using human to tonify human," obtaining its essence, even Gong Yunlin stated that plants and trees are emotionless, only substances with Qi and Blood can tonify humans, such as Renru (Human Milk), Renbao, Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini), and Lu Jiao Jiao. Both theories are indeed correct. But who knows that using one human placenta costs one child's life? Husbands facing infertility should preserve Yin virtue; instead, using Lurong (Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum) and Lusui (Medulla Cervi) provides unparalleled nourishment. Deer live for a thousand years, their Qi connects to the Du Mai (Governing Vessel); their antler and marrow are most precious and can be widely disseminated, though few people recognize this. This treatise expresses my accumulated thoughts over a lifetime, not rigid adherence to ancient formulas. It outlines general principles. Detailed diagnosis of pulse and symptoms is required for further modification to achieve perfection. As for women, although primarily governed by Blood, there are also cases of Qi deficiency failing to grasp essence, Qi cold failing to warm, or Qi stagnation failing to unblock essence. These treatments are not vastly different from those for men. By deducing from pulse and symptoms, one avoids indiscriminate medication.
