There are cases where a person suddenly develops a carbuncle (a severe suppurative infection) between the waist eyes, accompanied by unbearable pain and loud cries. It appears to be a Yang syndrome (syndrome characterized by heat, excess, and hyperactivity). However, the waist and kidneys are the realm of extreme Yin, so it should not be treated as a Yang carbuncle. Treating it entirely as a Yang syndrome is highly inappropriate. Although this condition originates from excessive retention of essence, where one desires to release but suppresses it, forming this toxicity, it seems purely to be an error of the Yin aspect. Yet, although the waist is close to the inner kidney, when fire erupts and toxicity forms, there is Yang within Yin. Therefore, it cannot be treated solely as a Yin syndrome; both Yin and Yang must be treated simultaneously. By resolving the toxicity, the pathogenic factor will be swept away like dust. If one does not nourish Yin but directly treats the toxicity, the Kidney Qi will be further injured, making it difficult for the toxicity to dissolve quickly. Even if one nourishes Yin without tonifying Yang, since Yin cannot generate without Yang, the toxicity will remain deeply hidden in the Palace of the Kidney and fail to vent outward. The prescription used is Liang Zhi San (Two-Pronged Treatment Powder): Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex, 1 liang), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1 liang), Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, 3 liang), Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix, 1 qian), Cao (likely referring to Gancao or similar, 3 qian). Decoct in water and take orally. After one dose, pain lightens; after two doses, pain stops; after three doses, complete recovery occurs.
This formula uses Baizhu and Duzhong to benefit the waist and umbilical region; when Qi flows freely, toxicity naturally struggles to consolidate. Furthermore, herbs such as Jinyinhua and Danggui provide supplementation with dispersing properties, while Fangji and [Cao] enter the Palace of the Kidney directly to dispel damp-heat toxicity. Thus, there is no risk of Yin-Yang imbalance, and there is a subtle efficacy in separating evil from righteous Qi. Naturally, success is achieved in one or two doses, not merely by chance.
In some individuals, the center of the palm suddenly becomes red, swollen, and protruding, transforming into a carbuncle with extremely severe pain that persists day and night without interruption. This is what the world calls Qing Ju (Palm Carbuncle). People who develop this carbuncle often suffer because of karmic debts or enemies seeking retribution. Internal and external treatments often fail to achieve results, and some even bleed to death, leading some to believe it need not be treated. However, having a disease without a remedy, how can we demonstrate the greatness of our medical way? If one is willing to confess and repent at the critical moment, and feel remorse before death, how could it not be curable? Moreover, although the origin of this carbuncle lies in karmic retribution, it also arises because the patient possesses toxic heat-fire, which takes advantage of the situation to erupt. Therefore, eliminating this toxic heat-fire, why would it not be effective? The issue is that heat-fire does not arise overnight, and detoxification cannot rely on small doses. Since toxicity forms from heat, and heat arises from fire, the excess of fire ultimately stems from the insufficiency of water. Without large doses to nourish water, relying only on small doses to extinguish fire, how can victory be achieved? The treatment method must heavily use formulas to nourish water, with a small adjunct of detoxifying agents, then Qing Ju will heal itself. The prescription used is Shi Qing Tang (Release Palm Decoction): Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix, 2 liang), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix, 1 liang), Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, 2 liang), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1 liang), Zihuadiding (Violae Herba, 5 qian), Beimu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 2 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
After one dose, pain lightens; after two doses, pain stops. For those already ulcerated, take four more doses; for those not yet ulcerated, take one more dose. All will recover completely. After recovery, one must still confess and repent to avoid future complications. If one is insincere in improving oneself and lacks courage to change, other diseases may arise; this is not the fault of this formula. Regarding this formula, it treats fire by nourishing water and resolves toxicity by supplementing righteousness. It places itself in a position of no fault, so what is there to debate?
