(From Zhang Jiabin's *Xin Fang Ba Zhen*) Treats syndromes of pain, distension, and fullness in the chest and abdomen, as well as food retention (Shi Ji), qi stagnation (Qi Ji), blood stasis (Xue Ji), parasitic accumulation (Chong Ji), qi-type hernia (Qi Shan), blood-type hernia (Xue Shan), abdominal distension with swelling (Peng Zhang), masses (Zheng Jia), severe pain due to pathogenic excess and constipation/stagnation.
Chenpi (Tangerine Peel), Houpo (Magnolia Bark), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Wuyao (Linderae Radix), Baijiezi (Sinapis Semen), Caodoukou (Cardamomi Fructus), Sanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma), Ezhu (Curcumae Rhizoma [roasted]), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Yazao (Gleditsiae Spina), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) (each 3 qian, all ground into fine powder); Badou (Crotonis Fructus) (soaked in boiling water, skin and heart membrane removed, weighed exactly 1 qian).
First, take one bowl of water and the Badou, simmer over low heat until reduced to half a bowl. Remove the Badou, grind it in a mortar until extremely fine, then mix in the previous decoction evenly. Then, depending on the quantity of herbs, soak steamed wheat cakes until soft, mash together, and form pills the size of mung beans. Take 3 fen or 5 fen per dose; for severe cases, take 1 qian. Administer with hot ginger soup. If diarrhea occurs...
Tai Ping Wan Formula Verse: Ezhu, Baijiezi, Sanleng, Houpo, Zexie, Ganjiang, Chenpi, Yazao, Muxiang, Wuyao, Caodoukou, a tiny amount of Badou is sufficient to exert its power. (This formula uses a minute amount of Badou to propel the action of the other herbs, making it excellent for removing stagnation. If a more drastic effect is desired, use 2 qian of Badou.) Whether it is food retention, parasitic accumulation, qi stagnation, or blood stasis causing obstruction, distension, and unbearable pain can generally be managed by relying on this formula. (Note: *Beiji Wan* from *Jin Gui Yao Lue* treats accumulations caused by cold-heat intermingling; *Ganying Wan* from *Ju Fang* treats accumulations caused by cold coagulation; Jingyue’s formula here treats accumulations of qi and food stagnation with constipation and solidity. The treatment of parasitic and blood accumulations relies on these agents.) Use different decoctions as guides according to the syndrome for administration: (For food retention, administer with a decoction made from the ingested food; for women’s blood and qi pain, administer with Danggui Tang; for excess qi pain, administer with Chenpi Tang; for hernia, administer with Huixiang Tang; for cold pathogen, administer with Shengjiang Tang; for qi-dampness excess leading to abdominal distension, administer with liquor mixed with a little white sugar; for worm pain, administer with Binglang Tang.) If diarrhea is frequent, drinking cold liquid proves effective. (Badou induces diarrhea, which stops upon exposure to cold. Therefore, if diarrhea persists after taking Badou pills or powders, drinking one or two mouthfuls of cold congee will stop it.)
