When people suddenly suffer from Di Zhong Feng (Emperor's Wind Stroke), frequently holding Jiao Yao (a medicinal preparation for throat diseases) in the mouth yields visible results. However, if ignorant quacks misuse needles and knives, life may be lost.
In the initial stage, there is redness, swelling, and pain, with phlegm production and difficulty eating. Over time, it gradually enlarges, sometimes growing up to one cun long, rotting halfway around the waist, or even completely rotting away the Di Zhong area. Although difficult to cure initially, it remains harmless; following the correct treatment principles can yield miraculous effects. In the early stage, use Jiao Yao to extract phlegm and open the wind pathway, perform acupuncture, and insufflate Bing Peng San (Ice and Borax Powder), while administering Zi Di Tang (Purple Ground Decoction). Do not use a knife. If the Di Zhong becomes black and rotten after a long duration, Hui Sheng Dan (Revival Pill) should not be used. Instead, apply Zhen Gong Dan (True Merit Pill) with Na Xiao (Sodium Nitrate) removed, insufflated into the throat. Kou Gan San (Mouth Ulcer Powder) and Sheng Gong Dan (Holy Merit Pill) can also be used interchangeably. For liquid preparations, modify Zi Di Tang according to the condition; do not rigidly adhere to fixed formulas.
Ru E (Milky Goose) presents as redness and swelling in the throat. Recovery is not difficult. Frequent application of Jiao Yao combined with oral medication will naturally produce results, so there is no need for worry.
When there are two red, swollen areas in the throat resembling boils on both sides, it is called Shuang E (Double Goose). Do not mistakenly use a knife. First, apply a small amount of Mo Feng Gao (Wind-Rubbing Ointment) mixed with Jiao Yao and well water, holding it in the mouth. Use a goose feather to apply it to the boil in the throat, instructing the patient to close their eyes and hold it for a long time until a full mouth of phlegm is produced and spat out. Then insufflate Chi Lin San (Red Scale Powder) and take Zi Di Tang, which will naturally bring immediate relief. If the boil persists over a long period and resembles a lotus seed, use Xiao Lu San (Reed-Dispersing Powder) added with seven shelled Ba Dou (Croton Seeds) to fumigate the affected area. After fumigation breaks the lesion, only Lv Xue Dan (Lv Snow Pill) should be used.
Shu Fu Shi stated: Among various throat disorders, Single and Double Goose are very common. Although the symptoms are mild and easy to treat, rapid resolution is difficult. Recently, ignorant physicians, seeking quick results, often recklessly use needles and knives, resulting in many unnecessary deaths. I have now reviewed and revised these methods so that future practitioners may avoid harming the people. Generally, this disease arises from accumulated heat in the Lung Meridian, combined with wind-pathogen condensation triggered by seasonal factors, causing growth beside the throat, resembling silkworm moths or dates/jujubes. It presents with redness, swelling, pain, and difficulty swallowing. The shape can be single or double; double cases are milder, while single cases are severe. In the initial stage, prick Shaoshang (LU11) and Shaochong (HT9) acupoints with a three-edged needle, retain for three breaths, insert one fen deep, insufflate Chi Lin San, hold Jiao Yao mixture in the mouth, and continue taking previous medications for gradual effect. Acupuncture rules follow "left for males, right for females." To achieve rapid results, blow Jie Miao Dan (Swift Miracle Pill) into the nose for immediate dissipation. However, for chronic cases, Xiao Lu San is the primary remedy.
