In obese women who are unable to conceive, it is because the fatty membranes in the body obstruct the uterus (Zigong), leading to amenorrhea. Decoctions such as Daotan Tang (Phlegm-Resolving Decoction) may be used.
In frail and thin women who are unable to conceive, it is due to a lack of blood in the uterus and the failure of essence and qi to gather. Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction), along with herbs that nourish blood and yin, may be used.
If a pregnant woman suffers from fetal agitation caused by fire pathogen, resulting in rebellious qi and wheezing, Tiaohuang Huangqin (Coptis Rhizome, specifically the strip variety) and Xiangfu (Cyperus Rhizome) should be administered urgently. The Coptis Rhizome should be soaked in water, and only the pieces that sink to the bottom (indicating higher density and potency) should be used.
To Stabilize the Fetus: Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, 0.5 qian), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, each 1 qian), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 1.5 qian), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Guishenwei (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, stem and tail ends, 1 qian), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 1 qian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 2 qian), Nuomi (Oryza Sativa Glutinosa, 14 grains), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, a small amount), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, a small amount), Sangshangyangerteng (Uncaria Rhynchophylla growing on mulberry tree, seven complete leaves). These ingredients are cut into small pieces and decocted in water for oral administration.
For cases of fetal unrest due to blood deficiency, Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin) is used. For pain, Suosha (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) is used because it promotes the movement of qi.
All diseases should not be treated with diaphoretic (sweat-inducing) methods.
(Treatment based on Phlegm.)
Dai Yun stated: "Ezu" (Nausea and Vomiting of Pregnancy) refers to the condition where a pregnant woman experiences nausea, which obstructs her appetite and food intake.
Obese patients often have phlegm, while thin patients often have heat; Erchen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction) is frequently used.
Alternatively, Baizhu powder can be formed into pills using water as a binder. They can be taken according to preference, either as a decoction or swallowed with water.
Cravings for specific foods during pregnancy indicate the deficiency of a certain zang organ. For instance, if the Liver is deficient, its qi is solely sufficient to nourish the fetus, leaving no surplus for itself.
Blood stasis masses, dead blood, food retention, and phlegm-fluids condensing into lumps in the hypochondrium, accompanied by abdominal borborygmus, epigastric discomfort, vertigo, fever, and intermittent symptoms.
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 1 liang; half stir-fried with Zhuyu [Evodiae Fructus] and discarded; half stir-fried with Yizhi [Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus] and discarded), Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus, 0.5 liang, stir-fried), Taixiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma, 0.5 liang), Xiangfu (Cyperus Rhizoma, 1 liang, soaked in urine), Luobozhongzi (Brassicae Semina, 1.5 liang, stir-fried), Shanzha (Crataegi Fructus, 1 liang), Sanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma), Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata, each 0.5 liang), Ezhu (Curcumae Longae Rhizoma, 0.5 liang, boiled in rice vinegar), Taoren (Persicae Semen, 0.5 liang, tip retained, skin removed), Baijiezi (Sinapis Semen, 1.5 liang, stir-fried), Walongzi (Fossilized Bones, for resolving blood masses). Grind into powder and form into pills for administration.
If a woman has a large blood mass in the abdomen resembling a plate, harsh purgatives or strong blood-breaking agents cannot be easily administered during pregnancy.
Xiangfu (Cyperus Rhizoma, 4 liang, boiled in vinegar), Taoren (Persicae Semen, 1 liang, skin and tip removed), Haishi (Pumex, 1 liang, boiled in vinegar), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 1 liang). Grind into powder and form into pills using Shenqu paste as a binder.
