[Diagram of Acupoints of the Yang Linking Vessel] (Seventeen acupoints)
Waiguan (TE5): An acupoint of the Sanjiao Meridian, located on the dorsal aspect of the hand, two cun distal to the wrist crease, in the depression between the two tendons, comfortable to palpate. This point treats meridian and skin diseases caused by wind-cold. It has a master-disciple relationship with Zulinqi (GB41). In treating such conditions, Waiguan should be needled first.
The Yang Linking Vessel originates at Jinmen (BL63), passes through Yangjiao (GB35), Riyue (LR24), Shu (likely referring to Jianyu LI15 or similar based on context, but translated as Shu per text), Binao (LI14), Jianjing (GB21), Tianyou (TE16), passes Fengchi (GB20), Naokong (GB19), connects to Chengling (EX-HN6), then to Zhengying (EX-HN7), Mingguang (EX-HN8), meets with Zulinqi (GB41), Yangbai (GB14) still follows Benshen (GB13), and finally converges with the Du Meridian at Fengfu (DU16) and Yamen (DU15). There are thirty-four acupoints in total on both sides.
[Song of Measurements for Acupoints of the Yang Linking Vessel]
The acupoints of the Yang Linking Vessel originate from the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian; Jinmen (BL63) is hidden one cun below the lateral malleolus; Yangjiao (GB35) is seven cun above the ankle; Riyue (LR24) at the rib end meets the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian; seek the Shu acupoint (referring to Jianyu LI15 or similar shoulder region point) on the posterior scapula; Binao (LI14) is directly at seven cun above the elbow; Jianjing (GB21) is in the depression on the shoulder; Tianyou (TE16) is located beside the supraclavicular fossa (Quepen); Fengchi (GB20) meets in the depression behind the ear; Naokong (GB19) is prominent below the occipital bone; Chengling (EX-HN6) is one cun and five fen anterior to the brain; Zhengying (EX-HN7) is the site one cun anterior to Ling (Chengling). Mingguang (EX-HN8) is only one cun away from Zhengying; Zulinqi (GB41) is detailed at five fen entering the hairline; Yangbai (GB14) is measured one cun above the eyebrow tip; Benshen (GB13) is calculated at four fen entering the hairline; Yamen (DU15) is at the hairline entering from the back of the neck; Fengfu (DU16) is the boundary one cun entering the hairline.
[Verification of Acupoints of the Yang Linking Vessel]
Examining the acupoints of the Yang Linking Vessel, *Lei Jing* records thirteen acupoints, lacking Riyue (LR24), Binao (LI14), Chengling (EX-HN6), and Mingguang (EX-HN8). Li Shizhen records thirty-two acupoints on both sides, having Juliao (BL33) etc. meetings but lacking Riyue (LR24), Fengfu (DU16), and Yamen (DU15). Further examination of *Zhenjiu Dacheng* records thirty-four acupoints, having meeting points but lacking Binao (LI14). Synthesizing various families' research on the *Tu Jing* (Illustrated Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion), removing those without Yang Linking Vessel meetings and recording those with meetings, we actually obtain seventeen acupoints, totaling thirty-four on both sides. Now following the *Tu Jing* acupoint attributions, I clarify them one by one. Jinmen (BL63) is the Xi-Cleft point of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian, from which the Yang Linking Vessel branches off. It starts one cun below the lateral malleolus of the foot and runs seven cun above the lateral malleolus along the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. The Yang Qiao point is a meeting point of the Yang Linking Vessel, located transversely at the end of the third rib. Riyue (LR24) is a meeting of the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian, Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian, and Yang Linking Vessel. It also meets with the Hand and Foot Taiyang Meridians and the Qiao Meridians at Jianyu (LI15) on the upper scapula below the greater tubercle of the humerus. Binao (LI14) at seven cun above the elbow is a meeting of the Hand and Foot Taiyang Meridians and the Yang Linking Vessel. It also converges with Jianjing (GB21) in the shoulder depression, and Tianyou (TE16) at the upper border of the clavicle in the supraclavicular fossa, which is a meeting of the Hand and Foot Shaoyang Meridians and the Yang Linking Vessel. Fengchi (GB20) in the ear posterior depression, Naokong (GB19) under the occipital bone, Chengling (EX-HN6) one cun and five fen anterior to the brain, Zhengying (EX-HN7) one cun anterior to Ling, Mingguang (EX-HN8) one cun separated from Ying, Yangbai (GB14) one cun above the eyebrow, and Benshen (GB13) four fen entering the hairline all belong to the meetings of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian and the Yang Linking Vessel. Zulinqi (GB41) five fen entering the hairline is the meeting of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian, Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian, and Yang Linking Vessel. Yamen (DU15) entering the hairline at the back of the neck and Fengfu (DU16) one cun entering the hairline are meetings of the Du Meridian and the Yang Linking Vessel.
Summarizing the above acupoints, there are indeed thirty-four acupoints (seventeen on each side) of the Yang Linking Vessel. Clarified here for future sages to verify.
