Rubbing dozens of times is required to raise Yang Qi (Yang Qi, the warming and activating energy), continuously drawing Qi upward while rubbing and grasping must be hurried. Again drawing Qi upward and grasping/lifting, several sounds will naturally arise in the abdomen. If no sound arises in the abdomen, employ the Heat Method (a needling technique involving heat sensation); after one movement of Qi downward, raising Yin should follow; urgently using raising Yin once or twice, and repeating it three times downward will result in several bowel movements.
When sweat does not emerge, add the Raising Yang method; urgently employing rubbing, rubbing-grasping, and grasping-lifting requires careful attention. If the vomiting method fails to induce vomiting, add the Horizontal Reversal (Heng Ni) technique; further adding horizontal shaking and aligning with Yang. If the purgative method fails to induce purgation, add grasping-lifting; immediately use raising Yin, allowing Qi flow without haste. These three additive methods are now established; withdrawing the needle and regulating breathing twice is beneficial.
Raising Yang, even if it means moving Qi upward, involves pressing, rubbing, pausing exhalation, utilizing the merit of tremors; rubbing and grasping plus moving Qi upward, using raising Yin twice will cause distension to dissipate. Shaking smoothly and tapping two or three times, lift the needle by two fen (approx. 0.6 cm) and pause; then slightly rub to raise Yang, continuously using raising Yin for rapid diuresis/purgation.
Qi rising and raising Yang one or two times, rubbing and pressing makes Qi smooth; rubbing and lifting causes slight sweating; extending and lifting causes more sweating, so raise Yang again. If lifting repeatedly fails to produce effect, and profuse sweating occurs, no further explanation is needed; to dry sweat, urgently press down; after Qi moves, pressing and draining is permissible.
Raising Yang with rubbing searches for raising Yang; raising Yang with Qi moving upward rubs to assist Yang; extending and lifting causes slight sweating; using raising Yang with rubbing is even better. Hurriedly extending and lifting raises the skin; rubbing and grasping causes sweat like paste; further rubbing tonification causes sweat like water; to dry sweat, raising Yin is appropriate.
Rubbing dozens of times urgently raises Yang; urgent pressing, extending lifting, rubbing and grasping techniques; further adding lifting and rubbing five or seven times, sweating three times cools the whole body. Rubbing, trembling, pressing, extending, and grasping to rise; slight sweating returns to raising Yang; again taking paused exhalation thirty times, continuously using raising Yin is best.
Raising Yang even if rubbing many times; rubbing adds following the channels/meridians several times; urgent lifting three times requires adding tonification; adding extending and lifting allows Yang to intersect naturally.
Raising Yin implies pressing, which requires adding extending; lifting connects with rubbing, urgently pressing it; further making the needle head frequently sink and tremble; rubbing and massaging draining makes it fly like speed.
Raising Yang adds rubbing, smooth shaking seven times; rubbing horizontally shakes to harmonize reversed Yang; again taking Qi moving upward requires draining four times; extending and lifting raises the skin by seven parts over. If vomiting is excessive, extend Yang upward; Qi rising and raising Yang causes much vomiting; again taking Qi downward requires horizontal reversal; if not vomiting, press and take rubbing/massaging. To lift seven times vomit seven mouthfuls; all diseases regulated, Spleen and Stomach harmonized.
