The Foot-Taiyang Meridian causes lumbar pain, with the pain radiating to the neck, spine, buttocks, and back, feeling as if bearing a heavy burden. Puncture the main channel of this meridian to bleed; however, bleeding should be avoided in Spring.
The Shaoyang Meridian causes lumbar pain, with a sensation like needles pricking the skin, stiffness preventing flexion and extension, and inability to look around. Puncture the end of the "Chenggu" (a bone) of the Shaoyang meridian to bleed. The Chenggu refers to the solitary prominent bone on the lateral side of the knee. Bleeding should be avoided in Summer.
The Yangming Meridian causes lumbar pain, with inability to turn the head; turning the head may induce visual hallucinations and predisposition to grief. Puncture the Yangming meridian three cun below the knee (Zusanli, ST36), harmonize the upper and lower aspects, and then bleed. Bleeding should be avoided in Autumn.
The Foot-Shaoyin Meridian causes lumbar pain, with pain radiating to the medial aspect of the spine. Puncture the Foot-Shaoyin meridian at two cun above the medial malleolus (Fuliu, KI7); bleeding should be avoided in Spring. Excessive bleeding cannot be easily restored.
The Jueyin Meridian causes lumbar pain, with the waist feeling tight like the string of a drawn bow. Puncture the Jueyin meridian at the lateral side of the gastrocnemius muscle near the heel; palpate for nodular accumulations before puncturing. This condition causes excessive talking and a taciturn, dull demeanor. Puncture three times.
The Xie Mai (Loose/Unbound Vessel) causes lumbar pain, with pain radiating to the shoulder, blurred vision, and occasional urinary incontinence. Puncture the Xie Mai between the muscles and tendons of the knee, at the transverse vessel on the lateral edge of the fibula, until the blood changes from dark to bright red.
The Xie Mai causes lumbar pain, feeling as if pulled by a belt, often resembling a broken waist, with frequent fear. Puncture the Xie Mai where there are knot-like collaterals the size of millet seeds in the popliteal fossa; black blood will shoot out, stop when bright red blood appears.
The Tongyin Mai causes lumbar pain, with a sensation like a small hammer lodged inside, accompanied by localized swelling. Puncture the Tongyin Mai at the end of the fibula above the lateral malleolus, puncture three times.
The Yangwei Mai causes lumbar pain, with swelling at the painful site. Puncture the Yangwei Mai where it joins the Foot-Taiyang meridian in the space below the popliteal fossa, approximately one chi from the ground.
The Chongluo Mai causes lumbar pain, with inability to flex or extend, and fear of falling when extending. This is caused by lifting heavy objects injuring the waist, severing the Hengluo, causing evil blood to accumulate. Puncture between the Yang tendons, horizontal needling several cun upward, divided into two points for bleeding.
The Huiyin Mai causes lumbar pain, with profuse sweating at the painful site; after sweat dries, thirst arises, and after drinking, there is an urge to move. Puncture the Zhiyang Mai three cun above, located between the Qiao vessels, five cun upward horizontally, bleeding where the vessels appear full.
The Feiyang Mai causes lumbar pain, with a stifling sensation, progressing to sorrow and fear. Puncture the Feiyang Mai five cun above the medial malleolus, anterior to the Foot-Shaoyin meridian, at the intersection with the Yinwei Mai.
The Changyang Mai causes lumbar pain, radiating to the chest, with blurred vision, and in severe cases, opisthotonos, tongue retraction, and aphasia. Puncture two tendons at two points, located above the medial malleolus, anterior to the large tendon, posterior to the Taiyin meridian, about two cun above the ankle.
The San Mai causes lumbar pain with heat; severe heat causes irritability, and a sensation of a horizontal block in the lower waist, potentially leading to urinary incontinence. Puncture the San Mai between the bone and flesh anterior to the knee, along the bundle of vessels on the lateral collateral, dividing into three points.
The Rouli Mai causes lumbar pain, aggravated by coughing which leads to tendon spasm. Puncture the Rouli Mai at two points, lateral to the Foot-Taiyang meridian and posterior to the Shaoyang fibula.
Lumbar pain flanking the spine radiating to the head, with stiff neck, blurred vision, and desire to collapse. Puncture the Foot-Taiyang meridian at Weizhong (BL40) to bleed.
For lumbar pain with coldness in the upper part, puncture the Foot-Taiyang and Foot-Yangming meridians; for upper heat, puncture the Foot-Jueyin meridian; for inability to flex or extend, puncture the Foot-Shaoyang meridian.
For middle heat with panting, puncture the Foot-Shaoyin meridian and bleed at Weizhong (BL40).
For lumbar pain with coldness in the upper part and inability to look back, puncture the Foot-Yangming meridian; for upper heat, puncture the Foot-Taiyin meridian; for middle heat with panting, puncture the Foot-Shaoyin meridian. For difficulty defecating, puncture the Foot-Shaoyin meridian.
For lumbar pain resembling a fracture with inability to flex/extend or lift, puncture the Foot-Taiyang meridian; for pain radiating to the medial spine, puncture the Foot-Shaoyin meridian.
For lumbar pain radiating to the lower abdomen and controlling the testicles, with inability to extend, puncture the junction of the lumbar and sacral regions (referring to specific points near the sacrum), above the condyles of the tibia/fibula. Determine the number of punctures based on the waxing and waning of the moon. The effect is immediate upon needle withdrawal. Use Left-Right cross-point needling (Left for Right symptoms, Right for Left symptoms).
For lumbar pain with inability to flex/extend and urgent traction of the scrotum, puncture the Bashi (Eight Lateral Acupoints) and the local painful area. The Bashi points are located between the lumbar and sacral regions.
