(Hand Cold, Hand Chilly, Palm Heat)
Infants experience headache during meals. For five-center heat (heat sensation in the palms, soles, and chest), moxibustion is applied to Neiguan (PC6) with one moxa cone for each side. (From *Mingtang*) Neiguan (PC6) governs wind-heat in the hands. (From *Qianjin Fang*) Zhongchong (PC9), Shaochong (HT9), Taiyuan (LU9) (same as in *Mingtang*), Laogong (PC8), Jingqu (LU8), Lieque (LU7) govern palm heat. For elbow pain, Daxi (KI4) is moxibusted, governing cold of the hands and feet extending to the joints. Quze (PC3) governs hand chilliness and rebellious Qi. Juque (CV14) governs hand chilliness. Jingqu (LU8), Lieque (LU7) (see Biased Wind), Shaochong (HT9) (see Cold Damage), Zhongchong (PC9) (see Heart Pain), Jianshi (PC5) (see Mania), Taiyuan (LU9) treats palm heat. Jianshi (PC5) treats palm heat (see Mania). Zhongchong (PC9) treats palm heat (see Cold Damage without sweating). Yanglingquan (GB34) treats cold feet (see Knee). Dadu (SP2) treats reversed coldness of the hands and feet (see Abdominal Fullness). Shaoshang (LU11) treats palm heat (see Finger Spasm). Fenglong (ST40) treats Jue-ni (collapse/loss of consciousness) (see Corpse-like Collapse). Neiting (ST44), Zhangmen (LR13) treat Jue-ni. Xingjian (LR2) treats coldness of the four limbs. Quchi (LI11) and other points, Jianwaiyu (SI14) govern elbow coldness (*Qianjin* see Elbow). Daxi (KI4) treats coldness of the hands and feet (see Abdomen and Hypochondriac Pain).
Five-center heat is a symptom of food injury in infants. Adults are the same. If the hands and feet are chilly and cold beyond the joints, the severity of the condition is evident. One should promptly apply acupuncture and moxibustion according to the syndrome, rather than waiting until it reaches this extreme state. "Chilly" (Qing) means cold. The *Book of Rites* states: "Warm in winter and chilly in summer." This refers to this concept. See the section on Four Limbs Jue-ni for specific methods.
Zhiyin (BL67) governs wind-cold starting from the little toe of the foot, causing Mai-bi (pulse obstruction) moving up and down. (From *Qianjin Fang*) Yinlingquan (SP9) governs bi-pain in the foot. Zhongdu (LR6) governs damp-bi in the foot preventing walking. Yangfu (GB38), Yangjiao (GB35), Yanglingquan (GB34) govern bi-syndrome with numbness and insensitivity in the hip pivot and knee bones. Yangguan (EX-B7), Huantiao (GB30), Chengjin (BL56) govern bi-syndrome with numbness and insensitivity in the shank. Yaoshu (BL23), Fengfu (GV16) govern numbness and insensitivity of the foot. Pangguangshu (BL28), Daxi (KI4), Cishi (BL32) govern coldness and numbness of the foot. Yangguan (EX-B7) governs bi-syndrome with numbness and insensitivity in the shank (see Miscellaneous Foot Diseases). Fuxi (BL37) treats numbness and insensitivity of the hip pivot (*Tongren* see Miscellaneous Foot Diseases). Pangguangshu (BL28) treats numbness and insensitivity of the feet (see Waist and Feet). Baihuanxu (BL30) treats numbness and insensitivity of the hands and feet (*Mingtang* lower part see Spine). Shanglian (ST37) treats numbness and insensitivity of the hands and feet (*Tongren* see Biased Wind). Dubi (ST35), Biguan (ST31), Yanglingquan (GB34) govern numbness and insensitivity of the knee (*Qianjin* see Lower Back Pain).
The *Liezi* records that Yan Shi said: "Destroy his kidneys, and the feet cannot walk." Thus, the inability to walk is due to kidney disease. One should moxibustion the Shenshu (BL23) point. If there is no effect after one or two applications, it is advisable to moxibustion points such as Huantiao (GB30), Fengshi (GB31), Dubi (ST35), Xiguan (EX-LE4), Yanglingquan (GB34), Yinlingquan (SP9), Zusanli (ST36), and Jiexi (GB41). Wherever slight soreness and pain are felt upon pressing, that is the affected site; moxibustion at these sites will invariably be effective.
